- Ramadan Lectures 1446 AH – The Most Beautiful Names of Allah
In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Dear noble brothers, today we explore another of Allah's Most Beautiful Names, and the Name for today is Al-Ghaffar.
Al-Ghaffar in Arabic language is one of the verbal adjectives derived from verbs added to nouns, and it indicates the abundance of Allah's Forgiveness in quality and quantity.
Basically, forgiveness is to cover and conceal. Thus, Allah Al-Ghaffar is the One Who forgives sins and conceals them out of His Favor. He bestows His Pardon upon His worshipping servant.
Concealing the sins of the worshiper, after pardoning him, is a manifestation of the Perfection of Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He.
When someone uses an improper word, his life will become a living hell unless he forgets it, and herein lies the importance of concealment.
Again, Al-Ghaffar is the One Who forgives sins and conceals them out of His Favor. He bestows His Pardon upon His servant, and if this servant believes in Allah's Monotheism, then Allah Alone knows how to deal with them.
Al-Ghaffar (The Superb Forgiver) and Al-Ghafoor (The Oft Forgiving) are similar in meaning; however, Al-Ghaffar is stronger than Al-Ghafoor. Al-Ghafoor is The One Who forgives great sins, while Al-Ghaffar is The One Who forgives many sins. In other words, Al-Ghafoor refers to forgiveness in terms of quality, whereas Al-Ghaffar refers to forgiveness in terms of quantity. This is the subtle difference between Al-Ghaffar and Al-Ghafoor.
