Ramadan Selections 1447H- lesson 16: The greater one's goals, the loftier his aspiration

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The greater one's goal, the loftier his aspiration:

Some goals are limited; they come to an end. For instance, someone's greatest goal may be to buy a house, and he buys it eventually. Someone else's greatest goal may be to get employed, and he gets a job. Another person's greatest goal may be to become wealthy, and he becomes wealthy.

Mundane goals do not make man of a lofty aspiration, whereas great goals do. For instance, the concern of a person, who wishes to contribute something to his Ummah, or solve the problems of her people, such as unemployment, spinsterhood, ignorance, or moral corruption, is considered serious, and so his aspiration becomes greater.

Dear noble brothers, there is a wonderful saying, "Lofty aspiration is a sign of faith." Therefore, keep company with those of lofty aspiration, and avoid the company of those with mundane goals.

When you live with someone whose faith is strong, and he keeps encouraging you to do good things, you long to be like him. Accordingly, you wish to do good, to memorize Allah's Book (the Noble Quran), and to call people to Allah. On the other hand, when you befriend someone, whose main concern is fulfilling lusts and desires, your determination is weakened, and you feel drawn to imitate him in sinning.

Allah the Almighty says:

﴾ O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah and be with those who are true (in words and deeds). ﴿
