Ramadan Selections 1447H- Lesson 12: Preparing for the most serious occurrence in the future

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Preparing for the most serious occurrence in the future:

One of the well-known techniques in NLP is to “begin with the end in mind“.
When a person starts each day mindful of the reality of death, he remains firm upon the Path of Allah.
Reflecting on death does not mean abandoning work, avoiding business, or refraining from pursuing a higher study, or establishing companies.
Rather, it means that when death stays present in your mind and is considered in your daily decisions, you stay steadfast upon the Path of Allah, seeking His pleasure in everything you do.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah PBUH said,

(( Remember more often the destroyer of pleasures - death.))

[ At-Tirmizi ]

(( Live as long as you want, for you will die. Love whomever you want, for you will leave him. Do whatever you want for you will be requited for it. ))

[ Al Shirazi, by Jaber ]

Keeping death in mind has profound positive outcomes: it quickens a person's steps toward Allah and disciplines his behavior.
This is emphasized in the Sunnah:
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:

(( I was with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and a man from among the Ansar came to him and greeted the Prophet (PBUH) with Salam. Then he said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which of the believers is best?’ He said: ‘He who has the best manners among them.’ He said: ‘Which of them is wisest?’ He said: ‘The one who remembers death the most and is best in preparing for it. Those are the wisest.’ ))

[ Al Harith ]

Among the signs of true reason is turning away from the temporary world, seeking the eternal abode, preparing righteous deeds for the grave and preparing for the Day of Resurrection.

Every creature will die

and only The Glorified and the Almighty remains

No matter how long night might be,

dawn surely will break

No matter how long one might live,

descending the grave is inevitable

*****

Every mother’s son no matter how healthy he is,

will be carried in his coffin.

When you carry this coffin to its grave,

remember that one day you will be carried.
