In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

﴾ O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious – see V.2:2). ﴿

[ Al-Baqarah-183 ]

What does "that you may become Al-Muttaqun" mean? When you enter a room and you turn off all the lights till it is totally dark, your eyes have no function anymore, because you cannot see, thus in this room the normal person and the blind person are alike. This is regarding the light we all know. As for the Light of Allah (the light of guidance), man is equipped with reason, and this reason is based on causality, finalism and harmony. If man is distant from Allah, Allah's light will be turned off for him. The proof is in the following Ayah:

﴾ O you who believe [in Musa (Moses) (i.e. Jews) and 'Iesa (Jesus) (i.e. Christians)]! Fear Allah, and believe too in His Messenger (Muhammad ), He will give you a double portion of His Mercy, and He will give you a light by which you shall walk (straight), and He will forgive you. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ﴿

[ Al-Hadid, 28 ]

The Light of Allah is given in Ramadan to the one who turns to Allah, and due to this light, he/she will be able to see what is Haqq (right) as Haqq, what is Batil (falsehood) as Batil, what is good as good and what is evil as evil. The proof again is in the following Ayah:

﴾ O you who believe [in Musa (Moses) (i.e. Jews) and 'Iesa (Jesus) (i.e. Christians)]! Fear Allah, and believe too in His Messenger (Muhammad ), He will give you a double portion of His Mercy, and He will give you a light by which you shall walk (straight), and He will forgive you. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ﴿

[ Al-Hadid, 28 ]

This Divine Light is the greatest fruitful outcome of Ramadan.
