Creatures found in soil and their importance:
Dear believing brothers, it is incredible to find out that in one cubic meter of the soil there are more than 200.000 spider-worms, 100.000 insects, 300 soil-worms, and thousands of millions of germs and other microscopic creatures. Also, it is unbelievable that one gram of soil contains several billions of bacteria that are microscopic creatures of different shapes: flat, round, and spiral; some of which need oxygen, while others do not, and some of which are bare while others are covered with fringes that enable them to move.Actually, if mankind were exterminated, life would still continue to exist on earth, but if these tiny creatures were exterminated, life on earth would be impossible. Therefore, the existence of such creatures is more serious than that of mankind.
How did scholars interpret the word green?
Dear brothers, everything that we eat comes, in one way or another, from plants. Even meat comes from plants, since all grass-eating animals feed on the different kinds of plants. In this context, Allah the Almighty says:
(He, Who produces for you fire out of the green tree, when behold! You kindle therewith.)
Scholars were confused by Allah's Word "green" in the above Ayah, they wondered, "How is it possible that trees are green, yet they are used for burning fire?!" Trees do not burn unless they are dried up, so why does Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He says,
﴾ "out of the green tree…" ﴿
Some scholars, however, say that the word "green" refers to the scientific fact that trees do not become trees without their green leaves, which are the essence of their existence. Moreover, the growth of plants is based on a process called "photosynthesis". Without sunlight or water it would be impossible for plants to exist. In other words, sunlight, water and carbon dioxide, with which Allah the Almighty provides the earth's atmosphere, are necessary for the growth of plants; and leaves of trees are real factories wherein are made the basic elements of plants as well as all other organic substances.
Dear believing brothers, in autumn, leaves fall off trees and are scattered by the wind all over the soil of the earth and are devoured by billions of microscopic creatures, which, in turn become food for other more developed creatures, namely bacteria. This three-stage process needs air; but how does air get into the earth's soil? This is the job of worms and other creatures, such as rodents and snakes that live in the soil! If such creatures were exterminated, no plants would exist on earth!
Dear believing brothers, worms devour soil and produce fertilizers, and Allah, Alone, knows how many tons of fertilizers worms produce in one single hectare or square kilometer!
What is the purpose of this creation?
Dear believing brothers, it is indeed a marvelous universe that has been created by a Great Creator Whose Shari'ah is Wise, so where shall we go?! What diverts us from Allah the Almighty and from acting upon His Order?! These are only a few magnificent cosmic facts, but there are still too many others. Allah the Almighty says:
(And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little.")
He also says:
(…And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills...)
Dear believing brothers, Allah the Almighty says:
(And if you would count the graces of Allah, never could you be able to count them.)
Beyond a shadow of doubt, Allah the Almighty created has the earth and all the things existing on, in, and above it, so that we may get to know Him. Once we know Him, we will have accomplished the ultimate purpose for which we have been created! But if we fail to know Him, what a great loss! Regarding this point, Allah the Almighty says:
(Alas for mankind! There never came a Messenger to them but they used to mock at him.)
(… "My Lord! Send me back* "So that I may do good in that which I have left behind!" No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected.)
(He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!"* So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish* And none will bind as He will bind.)
(And (remember) the Day when the Zalim (wrong-doer, oppressor, polytheist, etc.) will bite at his hands, he will say: "Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger (Muhammad PBUH)* "Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend!* "He indeed led me astray from the Reminder (this Qur'an) after it had come to me. And Shaitan (Satan) is ever a deserter to man in the hour of need.")
These Ayaat about the creation of the universe are a wide-open gate for you to know Allah the Almighty.
