Friday Sermon (1035): s1. Daily business of selling and buying 2 (Deception and Swearing excessively to Allah)

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Introduction:

Dear brother, I would like to go on with the previous Khutbah which was about an important issue in the believer's life, and its significant comes immediately after getting acquainted with the believer's Lord, knowing His Method, remaining obedient to Allah and drawing close to Him. The rule of selling and buying is the subject of this Khutbah. Each one of us buys and sells even if he is not a merchant or a businessman. If he is a merchant, then this Khutbah and the one before revolve around one of the most important Fiqhi matters to him, because as it was reported in the Hadith:

((This knowledge contains the rules of the Religion…))

Our master Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said to his son Abdullah:

((O Ibn Umar, your religion, your religion is your flesh and blood. Take it from the pious ones, and don't take it from those who deviated.))

[Al-Ilal, by Abi Hatem]

Two crucial facts shall be highlighted in this Khutbah:

The 1st fact: Applying Islam is not restricted to the Masjid:

Applying religion is not limited to the Masjid, but rather it should be applied at work. In the Masjid you attend a Khutbah or a religious session, in which you learn about the Divine instructions ordained upon you by the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Furthermore, when you pray in the Masjid, you are rewarded for your prayer as long as you are upright and adherent to Allah's Orders. Hence, in the Masjid you learn about religion and you are rewarded, but your true religious commitment should be manifested in your store, in your field as a farmer, at your office as lawyer or a businessman and in your clinic as a doctor. All transactional religious details will be present in such places.

The 2nd fact: Man in general is either a seller or a buyer:

If you are not a merchant, you must have sold and bought something, so you should be concerned about this Khutbah, but if you are a merchant, then this Khutbah is extremely important to you, since selling and buying are your daily activities. When selling and buying include oppression, deception or lying, one must know that

((Injustice will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection.))

Deception is a destructive sledge-hammer:

Today's topic is deception (in selling and buying).

1- Deception is injustice and injustice is darkness in the worldly life:

Dear brother, it is injustice to wrong your Muslim brother, and keep in mind that injustice is darkness on the Day of Resurrection. If you ask me about the ruling on Halah gains (gaining money from permissible sources), I will say, the rule is "The mutual benefits". Also, if you ask me about the ruling on Haram gains (gaining money illegally), I will say "Making benefits by doing harm to other people". Hence, when the benefit you make is based on doing harm to other people, the money you make is Haram, but when it is based on benefitting other people, your earning is Halal. I keep repeating:

((Injustice will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection))

These darkness are the one in the heart, in the grave and on the Day when people are raised from the dead. Narrated Jabir Ibn Abdullah, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

((Beware of injustice, for it will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection))

[Muslim]

2- The deceiver will be left with no leading light on the Day of Resurrection:

Dear brother, we are in dire need of light on the Day of Resurrection:

﴾Their Light will run forward before them and with (their Records Books of deeds) in their right hands﴿

[At-Tahrim, 8]

The one, who wrongs his brother, deceives him and cheats him by hiding the defects of his commodity, will never have light with which he sees his way in the Hereafter:

﴾Darkness, one above another, if a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it!﴿

[An-Nur, 40]

3- Treat people as you wish them to treat you:

The golden rule which stands since Adam till the Day of Resurrection, and which is proved to be right is "Treat people as you wish them to treat you". Do you accept to be deceived? Do you like to be lied to? Do you accept to buy a car which has a grave defect? Do you like to buy a house which has a serious problem in its foundation? Will you buy something with a serious defect that is hidden from you? You should treat people as you wish them to treat you. Advise your fellow Muslim and show him the defects in your goods. If you do so, be sure that Allah will grant you provision, for He is the All-Knower of all that is hidden (or unseen, etc.).

4- The two parties of the transaction have the choice so long as they do not separate:

Narrated Hakim Ibn Hizam, may Allah be pleased with him, he said, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

((Both parties in a business transaction have a right to annul it so long as they have not separated; and if they tell the truth and make everything clear to each other (i.e., the seller and the buyer speak the truth, the seller with regard to what is purchased, and the buyer with regard to the money) they will be blessed in their transaction, but if they conceal anything and lie, the blessing on their transaction will be eliminated.))

[Agreed upon]

5- The money of the deceitful person will be destroyed:

Your unlawful money will be destroyed by spending them on treating your health problems, or they might be seized. Thus, there are thousands ways to destroy your unlawful money which you are in dire need of:

((Both parties in a business transaction have a right to annul it so long as they have not separated; and if they tell the truth and make everything clear to each other (i.e., the seller and the buyer speak the truth, the seller with regard to what is purchased, and the buyer with regard to the money) they will be blessed in their transaction, but if they conceal anything and lie, the blessing on their transaction will be eliminated.))

Tools of deception and how to avoid them:

1- Praising the commodity which lacks quality:

Dear brother, avoiding deception includes refraining from praising a commodity in something it lacks, such as claiming that it is manufactured in Europe (which has a deep-rooted history in manufacturing fabrics) while it is manufactured in another country which is not famous for its fabrics. Praising your goods in something they lack can be by claiming that the fabric is made of a natural string, while it is a synthetic one, or by saying that powdered milk is fresh, whereas it is not. Hence, false praising of commodities is deception.

The best of merchants are those who earn lawful money:

It was reported in the relic:

((Verily, the best business is that of those merchants who do not tell lie when they speak, who do not betray trusteeships, who do not break their promises, who do not practice any procrastination in paying back their debts, who do not practice severity in demanding their claims, who do not exaggerate as to the quality of the goods they want to sell, and who do not underestimate the quality of the merchandise they want to buy.))

[Al-Jame' As-Sagheer, by Mu'adh, weak Sanad]

 Let me repeat the Hadith:

((Verily, the best business is that of those merchants who do not tell lie when they speak, who do not betray trusteeships, who do not break their promises, who do not practice any procrastination in paying back their debts, who do not practice severity in demanding their claims, who do not exaggerate as to the quality of the goods they want to sell, and who do not underestimate the quality of the merchandise they want to buy.))

Deception is lying and lying marks hypocrites:

Dear brother, the largest Islamic state in the Muslim World, whose population is 250 million people, embraced Islam because of Muslim merchants. This explains why the honest merchant will be in the company of the Prophets, peace be upon them, the Siddiqeen (they are the followers of the Prophets, peace be upon them, who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr As-Siddiq), the martyrs and the righteous on the Day of Resurrection. The honest merchants is granted this exalted rank, and he is considered Da'iyah (Caller to Allah) since he sells his commodities at prices and deals with sh3er in good manners. Thus, he is a good example of how Muslim should be. The merchant shouldn't claim the commodity is of a high quality, for this is mere lying and lying is forbidden. Let alone, lying will diminish benediction. Muslims are brother, and bear in mind that lying is one of the characteristics of hypocrites:

((Narrated: Abdullah Ibn Umar: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner.))

[Agreed upon]

Deception is treason:

When you lie to your brother knowing he is wet behind the ears and knows nothing about buying or his information about specific commodity is poor, and he believes your lies, you are considered a traitor according to the following Hadith:

((It is great treachery to tell your brother something making him believe you while you are untruthful.))

[Abu Dawood, by Sufiyan Bin Usaid Al-Hadrami]

2- Hiding the flaws in the commodity:

The second thing is that you should show all the defects of your goods, whether they are apparent or hidden without concealing any of them. This is obligatory according to the following Hadith:

((The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to sell his brother goods in which there is a defect, without pointing that out to him.))

[Ibn Majah, by Uqbah Ibn Amer]

Doing so will make your selling purely Halal. I have mentioned, in a previous Khutbah, the story of the man who shrewdly was able to hide a serious defect in his car, and he sold it at a high price. The following day, he bought himself a brand new car, but two days later, he had a car accident and his car was crushed totally. Allah is Great.
Whosoever deceives us is not one of us, so pay heed:

Beware of hiding the defects of something you are about to sell no matter how little they are, lest you are considered an oppressor and deceiver, given deception is Haram:

((Whosoever deceives us is not one of us))

This is a very serious matter, for the deceiver will no longer be under the Protection of Allah. Not to mention, he is no longer a according to the following Hadith. Narrated Abi Hurairah: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

((Whosoever deceives us is not one of us))

[Muslim]

As for non-Muslims, you shouldn't deceive them either as it was reported in the following narration:

((Whosoever deceives people is not one of us.))

[At-Tirmizi, by Abi Hurairah]

Whoever deceives someone, even a magus, will no longer belong to the Ummah of our Master Muhammad, peace be upon him, according to the following Hadith:

((Whosoever deceives us is not one of us))

((Whosoever deceives people is not one of us))

((It is narrated on the authority of Abi Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) happened to pass by a heap of eatables (corn). He thrust his hand in that (heap) and his fingers felt wet. He, peace be upon him, said to the owner of that heap of eatables (corn), "What is this?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah, these have been drenched by rainfall. He (the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him) remarked, "Why did you not place this (the drenched part of the heap) over other eatables so that people could see it? He who deceives is not of me (is not my follower)."))

[At-Tirmidhi]

Hiding a flaw in your goods is abandoning An-Naseehah:

Dear brother, hiding a flaw in our goods is an abandonment of An-Naseehsh (offering advice to Muslims). The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

((Ad-Deen (religion) is An-Naseehah (sincerity and sincere advice).))

[Muslim, by Tamim Ad-Dari]

((Narrated Jarir bin Abdullah, I gave the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Apostle for the following: offer prayers perfectly, pay the Zakat (obligatory charity) and be sincere and true to every Muslim.))

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

3- Accuracy in weights and measures:

Inaccuracy (reducing) in weights, measures and lengths is another way of deception. Allah the Exalted says:

﴾Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of sh3er)]﴿

[Al-Mutaffifin, 1]

This Ayah belongs to a Makkiyah Surah (Of the 114 chapters [Suwar] in the Quran, 86 are classified as Makkiyah [located at the final pages of Quran], while 28 are Madaniyah. This classification is only approximate in regard to location of revelation; the chapter that was revealed after the migration of Muhammad, peace be upon him, to Al-Madinah (Hijrah) is termed Madaniyah and the one revealed before that event is termed as Makkiyah.)

The Makkiyah Suwar are generally about the universe, so this Surah (Al-Mutaffifin) seems to be interpolated, but it isn't. Scholars of the interpretation of the Noble Quran said, "Violating another Muslims' right, by deceiving him and giving him less in measure and weight, causes his destruction, so how about violating the Right of Al-Wahid (the One) and Ad-Dayyan (the Judge [i.e. Allah]) Who bestows upon you the graces of provision, existence, guidance and wisdom?" The Almighty Allah says:

﴾Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of sh3er)]* Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure,﴿

[Al-Mutaffifin, 1-2]

If the seller weighs more than the supposed weight to the buyer, then the latter takes his right fully and even more, but when the seller reduces the weight in endless ways, this will be deception. In this Ayah 100000 ways of deception are mentioned. The Almighty Allah says:

﴾Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of sh3er)]*Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure* And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due* Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning)* On a Great Day* The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)?﴿

[Al-Mutaffifin, 1-6]

Whosoever deceives other people should be aware of the following

1- Deception doesn't increase your provision, but it destroys it:

Dear brother, hiding flaws, marketing and praising goods which lack quality and being unjust in weighing and measuring, will never increase your provision, but rather these things will destroy it. Beware, your money can be destroyed in million ways. A relative of mine, who died lately, told me about a story which took place 20 years ago about a neighbor of his, who was a mechanic. He said that A man came to him in order to fix his car and the problem didn't need more than few minutes to be fixed, but the mechanic claimed that the problem was serious, and it needed three days to be fixed, and he asked for a lot of money. The owner of the car believed the mechanic's claims and disappeared for three days. The mechanic drove the owner's car to a resort with his family on the first day, on the second day they went for a picnic and on the third day he took them to another place. He fixed it in few minutes and used it for three days after taking hefty money.

My relative swore to Allah that a steel particle got into the eye of the mechanic's son and he had to travel to Lebanon to remove it by undergoing an operation. He paid five times more than the money he took from that customer. The Almighty Allah is Capable of destroying all the unlawful money, either in a fire, by having them seized or by paying an unexpected fine. Thus:

((Injustice will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection.))

2- Obeying Allah will never make you a loser, and disobeying Him will never make you a winner:

Hiding flaws of your goods, claiming to have qualities they lack and being unjust in weighing and measuring, will never increase your sustenance. On the contrary, these wrongdoings will destroy it, because whoever seeks something at the expense of disobeying Allah will be farther from what he aims at and closer to what he fears. Someone may aims at making profits by committing sins, so he loses his money because it is impossible to disobey Allah and win, or to obey Allah and lose. The deceiver might make profits for a short period of time, but the money he earns will be destroyed by the Almighty Allah.

I met a man who died recently, may Allah have mercy on his soul. He said to me, "I am 96 years old, and I ran some tests yesterday and everything seems to be normal in my body". Then he said to me, "I never earned ill-gotten money, and O son, we refrained from sinning in our youth, thus Allah kept our body intact in our old age".

The Almighty Allah makes it clear in the Noble Quran, and in the Sunnah, that sins decrease money, and whatever amount of money you collect through deception will be destroyed all at once. Money will never increase if it is collected by deceiving sh3er, and money will never decrease if it is collected by being honest and sincere. In fact, whoever thinks that cheating people is onlyrelated to measures and weights is mistaken.

3- The real success is on the Day of Resurrection:

The main point is that the believer should know that the real success is the one in the Hereafter, and gaining the Hereafter is better than gaining all the pleasures of the entire world. Pleasures are left behind in the worldly life after man dies, their bad consequences remain. How can the prudent exchange that which is better for that which is lower, given goodness lies in applying religion rightfully?

Pleasures will vanish, O you who fulfilled his lusts
by disobedience, then you are left with guilt and shame
You are left with dire consequences which cannot be undone
There is no good in a pleasure that is followed by Hellfire.

Dear brother, don't forget that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

(("Whoever says la ilaha illa Allah (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah Alone) sincerely will enter paradise" The Companions said, "O Allah's Messenger, how can we say it sincerely?" The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "You can do that by restrain from doing what Allah's Prohibitions"))

[At-Tabarani in Al-Awsat and Al-Kabeer]

If these words don't stop you from sinning, then it is as if you never said them. The issue is not about ignoring the devil's whispers who says to you, "If you show the flaws of your commodity, no one will buy it, but it is more serious. The true Muslim merchant who fears Allah and the Hereafter, compels himself to buy flawless commodity (in order to sell it to customers), because he wishes for sh3er what he wishes for himself. Only then, his commodity will be sold (because its quality is good).

A brother told me that he had a spare part which was very expensive, but it was not original (it was not manufactured in the country of origin). He couldn't sell it for seven years, and it was moved from one inventory to another year after year. He said, "After seven years, a customer asked for it, and while I was about to give it to him he asked, 'Is it original?' I said, 'No, it isn't'. Then the customer said, 'I'll buy it.'" It was only one word which made his bargain Halal, not Haram.

4- When Allah blesses your money, He also preserves your health:

Dear brother, if Allah blesses your money, He will keep your health good. Whatever dysfunction in one of the body systems needs millions to be cured, like kidney failure, brain stroke or cardiac infarction; needless to say that illness turns man's life to a living Hell:

((Injustice will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection.))

Going to the Masjid regularly does not mean that you are religiously committed, because your religious commitment is supposed to be manifested at work, in your farm when you refuse to feed the vegetables and fruits with harmful hormones, in your business when you don't sell spoilt or expired food), at your office, as a lawyer, when you don't give your client the impression that he will win the lawsuit while you know for sure that he will lose it, letting him wait for years to keep paying you more money and in your clinic when you don't claim that your patient is seriously ill.

Fear Allah Alone, and you will dispense with someone's Du'a (supplication). I usually receive phone calls in which I am asked to make Du'a for people. Once a ruler asked a scholar to make Du'a for him, so the scholar said, "Don't oppress anyone, and you don't need my Du'a". These words say it all. Hence, stand (ask Allah to make) you firm and straight (on the religion of Islamic Monotheism) as you are commanded, and you don't need anybody's Du'a.

Don't swear much in transactions:

Dear brother, the second point I would like to discuss today is "And protect your oaths (i.e. do not swear much)". Allah the Exalted says:

﴾Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter (Paradise). Neither will Allah speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful torment.﴿

[Aal-'Imran, 77]

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that he heard the Prophet, peace be upon him, saying:

((The swearing (by the seller) may persuade the buyer to purchase the goods but that will be deprived of Allah's blessing.))

[Bukhari]

Hence, the punishment of whoever sells his goods by taking false oaths, will be deprivation of the blessings of the Hereafter, and he will have no portion of Paradise's bounties. Furthermore, Allah will not talk to him, will not bestow His Mercy upon him, will despise him, will not purify him of his sins and will severely punish him.

﴾Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant ﴿

[Aal-'Imran, 77]

You swear by trust, by Al-Ka'bah, by the Quran or by the Prophet, peace be upon him, that you bought a commodity at such and such price, while it isn't true. You just take false oaths to sell it:

((Narrated Abdullah bin Abu 'Aufa: A man displayed some merchandise in the market and took an oath that he had been offered a certain price for it while in fact he had not, in order to cheat a man from the Muslims. So then was revealed:-- "Verily! Those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths..."))

[Al-Bukhari]

Dear brother, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said in Sahih Hadith narrated by Abi Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him:

((There are three (types of) people with whom Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor purify them (from sins) and there will be a painful chastisement for them: A person who has spare water in a desert and he refuses to give it to the traveller; a person who sells a commodity to another person after the afternoon prayer and swears by Allah that he has bought it at such and such price, and the buyer pays him accordingly though in reality it was not true; and a person who pledges allegiance to an Imam (leader) just for some worldly benefit, and then if the Imam bestows on him (something out of that) he fulfills his allegiance, and if does not give him, he does not fulfill it." Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, reauthord: "Verily! Those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's Covenant and their oaths..."))

[Al-Bukhari]

((Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Prophet, peace be upon him, saying, "There are three to whom Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will look at them nor purify them (i.e., of their sins), and they will be severely tormented." When he repeated this (statement) thrice, Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "They are doomed and destroyed! (But) who are they, O Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him?" He said, "One whose lower garment trails, one who boasts of kindness shown to another; and one who promotes sale of his business by taking false oaths."))

[Muslim, Abu Dawood and At-Tirmizi]

I would like to repeat the aforementioned Hadith:

((The swearing (by the seller) may persuade the buyer to purchase the goods but that will be deprived of Allah's blessing.))

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Applying religion should not be restricted to the Masjid:

Dear brother, there are still many topics to discuss in another coming Khutabh Insha' Allah, but let me stress again the points I have mentioned earlier in this Khutbah. One of them is that your true religion should be applied at home. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

((The best of you is he who is best to his family, and I am the best among you to my family))

[Sahih Isnad]

Your good behavior outside your home is meant to make business and impress sh3er, but at home, there are no beholders except Allah. Thus, your true religion is presented at home, in your shop, and at work. Your religion should prevent you from mistreating the citizens at work. You should not delay finishing the documents of a citizen who comes from Aleppo, for instance, telling him, "Come tomorrow", because you don't want to interrupt your interesting chat with your female colleague. When you do that, you force the citizen to spend one more day in the hotel paying thousands Liras. As a true Muslim, you are expected to finish working on his papers as soon as possible. If you are an employee, you will be called to account for all your mistreatments towards citizens. You shouldn't say, "I am fed up with working for law income." You accept that job, then do it perfectly or resign. Your income will not be Halal until you perfect your job.

 Hence, dear brother:

((O S'ad purify your food (and as a result) you will become one who's supplications are accepted…))

Purifying your food means that it is bought by Halal money. I am not exaggerating when I say that there are hundreds of sins committed in selling and buying, starting with lying, hiding commodity's flaws, monopolizing, misleading, and urging someone to cancel a sale he has already agreed upon with his brother in order to sell him his own goods, and ending with resorting to Najash (bidding up the price without an intention to take delivery of the commodity).

Dealing with people what really counts not your Islamic appearance:

Dear brother, in fact, although Muslims offer prayers, Umrah and Hajj, and they fast, they have neglected Allah's Method in their transactions, so Allah will neglect them in return.

Let me tell you one last time, that the ritual acts of worship will not be accepted as long as the transactional acts are not performed perfectly. It was said, "Leaving a Daniq (a type of currency) of Haram is better than 80 Hijah (performing Hajj for 80 times) after embracing Islam."

((Whoever helps his brother fulfill his needs, is more rewarding than fasting for a month and staying in I'tikāf in my Masjid.))

((Allah does not judge you according to your bodies and appearances, but He scans your hearts and looks into your deeds.))

Islamic appearances, such as Islamic clothes, Musk, rosary, Miswak, having the Quran in the car or hanging an Islamic calligraphy of an Ayah don't count. Some shop owners have an Islamic calligraphy of the following Ayah in their shops:

﴾ Verily, We have given you (O Muhammad, peace be upon him) a manifest victory.﴿

[Al-Fath, 1]

Also, some doctors hang the following Ayah on the wall of their clinics:

﴾ "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me; ﴿

[Ash-Shu'ara', 80]

All these things will do you no good if you are not upright on the Path of Allah, and they won't even protect you from Allah's Punishment, so be transparent in dealing with Allah. Furthermore, when you skillfully take a Fatwa, from someone who is not qualified enough in giving Fatwa to justify your wrongdoings, and then you claim that he is responsible for it, you actually deceive yourself. Even if you could take a Fatwa from the mouth of the infallible Prophet, peace be upon him, given he is the Master of mankind and the beloved to Al-Haqq (Allah), but you were not upright and you gave false facts in order to get that fatwa, you would never escape Allah's Torment. Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her, said that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

((Verily, I am only a human and the claimants bring to me (their disputes); perhaps some of them are more eloquent than sh3er. I judge according to what I hear from them). So, he whom I, by my judgment, (give the undue share) out of the right of a Muslim, I in fact give him a portion of (Hell) Fire, so he would better not take it.))

[Al-Bukhari]

Dear brother, most questions I get through the phone calls are about obvious violations (of Shari'ah), and about earning Haram money. The callers try hard to convince me that they are doing the right thing thinking that they can make the scholar responsible for their wrongdoings. They are mistaken, because every person will be called to account for his own deeds, and the Fatwa they take will never make Haram Halal.

I say my words, and I ask the Forgiveness of Allah, the Most Great, for me and for you. Dear brother, ask His Forgiveness, so that you will be forgiven, as those who are forgiven will be the successful ones.

***
  The 2nd Khutbah:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah; the Protector of the righteous. And I bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad, peace and upon him, is His Servant and Messenger, the one with noble morals. May Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him, his Folks and Companions.

((Whoever abandons something merely for the sake of Allah, will in return receive things from Allah serving him in his religion and in the Hereafter)):

Dear brother, I would like to remind you of the following Hadith:

((Whoever abandons something merely for the sake of Allah, will in return receive things from Allah serving him in his religion and in the Hereafter.))

This includes leaving a suspicious bargain, defraudation or selling expensive commodity after hiding a defect in it. I repeat the Hadith:

((Whoever abandons something merely for the sake of Allah, will in return receive things from Allah serving him in his religion and in the Hereafter.))

The scholars, who discussed the connection between the servant of Allah and His Lord, (they are specialized in the knowledge of hearts), and the seekers of Allah's Path confirm the fact that when the servant swindles in transactions, he will be veiled from Allah, which is the severest punishment in the worldly life. Allah says:

﴾ Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day.﴿

[Al-Mutaffifin, 15]

The performance of your prayers can be the scale according to which you measure your punishment. For example, if you sell something according to the Islamic teachings, you will perform your prayer devotedly and submissively. Therefore, your path to Allah is open and you are connected with Him. However, if you deceive a Muslim, lie to him about the manufacturing country of the origin of your commodity or sell something after claiming that its quality is excellent, you will not escape Allah's Punishment, the least of which is to be veiled from Him, given it is the severest punishment for the one who seeks Allah's Path, isn't it?

﴾ Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day.﴿

[Al-Mutaffifin, 15]

You should deduce rules from your daily life:

There are rules which are deduced from your daily life whenever and wherever. There are huge profits that can be made by deceiving people. Whoever cheats people in his transactions will make lots of money. However, life teaches us that this earning will perish soon, and then the punishment begins. When you are upright on the Path of Allah, on the other hand, you will be included in a different set of laws which I call "The laws of the Divine Providence". According to which, the worldly life will come to you compulsively.

By Allah dear brother, I know thousands of stories about this point. A man refused to sell his commodity which had a defect, because he feared Allah, but a customer bought it though he knew its defect, and he even paid a fair price for it.

((Whoever abandons something merely for the sake of Allah, will in return receive things from Allah serving him in his religion and in the Hereafter.))

A well-known importer sold an experienced merchant a certain kind of fabric. The merchant wanted to sell the meter of the fabric at 8.50 Liras, but no merchant accepted to buy it. Thus, he reduced the price to 7.5, then he kept reducing it till the price became 5 Liras only. Yet, it wasn't sold. One day an inexperienced merchant wanted to buy the fabric and upon asking about the price, the merchant said, "It is 8.5 per meter", and the man accepted to buy it and to pay cash for it. However, the experienced merchant said, "By Allah, I will not sell it to you, because it will be the reason of your bankruptcy in the future. You are still wet behind the ears, and you don't know that I put it up for sale at 5 Liras per meter, but no one bought it. I couldn't even sell it on credit." This experienced merchant saved his religion by this stance, and he didn't want to cause that young man's bankruptcy, so he refused to sell him the fabric. When you fear Allah, thousands of ways of making provision will be opened to you, but all you need is having faith and taking a good stance.

Supplication:

O Allah, we beseech You to show us the way of righteousness together with those to whom You showed it; and to give us good health together with those whom You have healed; and to be our Protector, as You are of those whom You protect; and to bless what You have bestowed on us; and to save us from the affliction that You have decreed –for You rule with justice and You are never judged; and he whom You protect shall never be humiliated, and he whom You make Your enemy shall never be elevated, blessed and dignified are You.  O Allah, raise high the word of truth and this Deen, grant triumph to Islam, dignify Muslims, humiliate polytheism and polytheists, destroy Your enemies; the enemies of this Deen.
