Friday Sermon (1028): What is good for a believer to do in the first ten days of the month of Thi Al Hijja

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The Ten Days of Thi Al_Hijjah:

Honorable brother, we are in the ten days of Thi Al_Hijjah, the good ancestors used to work hard on these days the way they do in Ramadan or even more, and that is the secret behind the high rank of this nation by following the Book (the Qoran) and the sunnah and the way of the nation’s ancestors.
Ibn Katheer said in explaining the ayah: “By the dawn, And [by] ten nights”, the ten days mean those of Thi Al_Hijja as said by Ibn Abbas.

 And the prophet PBUH, said:

“ The ten are the ten of Al_Adha, the odd- number, the (witr) is the day of Arafah, and the even-number- (shaf’) is the slaughter day”.

[series of weak hadiths]

The Level of the Good Deed in the first ten days of Thi Al_Hijjah

 And the prophet PBUH said:

“There are no days in which the righteous deed is more pleasing to Allah the Almighty than these days, meaning the ten days, they said: “Messenger of Allah, not even the jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said: “not even the jihad for the sake of Allah, except for a man who went out with nothing but himself and his money and never came back with anything.”

[Al_Bukhari from Ibn Abbas]

And in another hadith, the prophet PBUH said:

“There are no days in which deed is greater and more beloved to Allah the Almighty than the ten days, so do more exaltation, praising, and glorification”

In religion, there is no personal opinion, religion is a revelation, what came in the noble quran and the sahih sunnah is religion.

Virtues of the Day of Arafah:

The day of Arafah is one of the ten days, and it is the day of the big hajj, in sahih Muslim on the virtue of the day of Arafah, from Aa’isha that the Messenger of Allah PBUH said:

“There is no day more than that on which Allah frees slaves from Fire than the Day of Arafah and He would come close and boast the angels about them and He would say: “What did those want?”

[Muslim from Aa’isha]

An_Nawawi said: “That hadith is apparent in the significance of the virtue of the Day of Arafah”
Muslims are two parties, that is; either they are at pilgrimage, and they are performing the most divine worship, or they did not have the opportunity to go to pilgrimage, so they have the ten days (to perform the worship).

This is the Reward of Hajj and Umrah

 The prophet PBUH said:

“Continuously alternate between Hajj and Umrah, for they eliminate poverty and sins as the bellows eliminate impurities from iron, gold, and silver, and there is no thawab (reward) for the good Hajj except paradise”

[At_tirmithi and the Nisaa’I from Ibn Mas’ood]

And the prophet PBUH also said:

“Whoever performed Hajj and does not have sexual relations with his wife and does not do any evil nor sins, will return (from Hajj free from sins) as the day he was born”.

[agreed on]

The Best Deeds in the Ten Days:

1- Fasting the Day of Arafah:

Honorable brother, I’m addressing the people who will not perform Hajj this year, what is the best thing to do these days? It is a sunnah to fast the day of Arafa, for what Imam Muslim from Abu Qutadah from the Prophet PBUH, he said about fasting the day of Arafa:

“It expiates the sins of the past year and the present one”

[Muslim from Abu Qutadah]

2-Make a lot of Invocation/ Dua’:

It is sunnah to invocate a lot on those days, the prophet PBUH said:

“The best dua’ is on the Day of Arafa, and the best thing the prophets before me and I said is: There is no god but Allah Alone with no partner, Owner of all Possessions and all praise, and He has a power over all things)).

[At_Tirmithiy from Amr Bin Shuaib from his father from his grandfather]

3- Reciting the quran and a lot of prayer, fasting and giving:

And it is also Sunnah to reauthor the noble Quran and perform a lot of prayers and give charity in these days.

The Last ten days of Ramadan and the first ten days of Thi Al_Hijja:

It is not exaggeration to say that the best ten days in Muslims’ life ever are these ten days, and the best ten nights of the Muslims’ nights ever are the last ten nights of Ramadan. We are between ten days and ten nights, the best ten days are these which we are living now and the best nights were those in the last ten of Ramadan.

Recommendations to Fast the ten days of thi Al_Hijja

Honorable brother, from Ibn Abbas speech and the general implications, it is concluded that the ten days of thi Al_Hijja are the best days in a Muslim’s life. It is a Sunnah to fast all these days, a recommended but not an obligation. Fasting the day of Arafa is the most necessary in these ten days, but it is recommended to fast the whole days, Imam Nawawi (May Allah have Mercy on him) said: “There is nothing dislikable in fasting those nine days-the nine days of thi Al_Hijja-, rather it is very desirable”.

Ibn Hajr Al_Asqalani in Fath Al_Bari said: “And it appears that the reason for the distinction of the ten days of thi Al_Hijja with these privileges is that the gathering of the worships in them; prayers, fasting, charity, and Hajj, and those do not come together except in them”.

Glorification of Allah in the ten days of thi Al_Hijja:

It is recommended to Glorify Allah in those ten days, although this sunnah is abandoned as some scientists said, I might stand a little at its reality.

1-The Reality of Glorification (At_Takbeer):

Whoever obeys a creature and disobeys the Lord of the Worlds has never really said “Allahu Akbar” even if he uttered them a thousand times with his tongue. Islam lives with realities not with words only. What has one who obeys his wife in disobedience actually seen? He saw that obeying the wife is greater than obeying Allah. Whoever obeys a creature in disobedience; he sees that obeying that creature is greater than obeying Allah, therefore in orderto avoid falling into illusions and keep saying: “Allah Akbar” while in fact we are obeying creatures for the wreckage of the world, for safety, for power, if we do that, then we have never said Allah Akbar. Allah the Almighty does not look at our images, or to our words, but He looks into our hearts and deeds.
One of the Glorification that the prophet PBUH recommended (sunnah) is:

“Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, laa ilaha illa Allah,Wallahu Akbar, Walillah el Hamd.”
“Allah is Greater, Allah is Greater, there is no god but Allah, Allahu is Greater, and all praise be to Allah.”

1-The Form of Glorification (takbeer):

Imam Bukhri, may Allah have mercy on him, from Ibn Omar and from Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with them, mentioned that they used to say in the ten days:

“Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, laa ilaha illa Allah,Wallahu Akbar, Walillah el Hamd.”

That is the absolute takbeer, as for the restricted one, it should be said after the five prayers from the day of sacrifice until the last days of tashreeq, and it is recommended to raise the voice in glorification whether at home, at mosques or in the streets.

“And to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you”

[Surat Al_Baqara, ayah: 185]

The Sacrifice:

1-The status of sacrifice on the day of Eid:

It is a sunnah on the first day of noble Eid Al_Adha to make a sacrifice, and it is a Muslim ritual on Eid Al_Adha, its legitimacy that Imam Ahmad and Ibn Majah reported from Abu Hurairah May Allah be pleased with him, he said: the Messenger of Allah PBUH said:

“Whoever is capable and never gave sacrifice is not to approach the place where we pray”

[Ahmad, Ibn Majah]

Imam Abu Haneefah-May his soul rest in peace- concluded from this hadith that it is compulsory, as this kind of warning does not apply on leaving something that is not compulsory.
And sh3er than the Ahnafs said: “ it is a confirmed sunnah and they have their evidence”, it falls between the obligation according to Abu Haneefah and a confirmed sunnah to sh3er. It is an obligation once a year for the free, adult, rational, resident and solvent Muslim. From Aa’isha may Allah be pleased with her that the prophet PBUH said:

“Never has the son of Adam made a deed more lovable to Allah the Almighty than shedding blood, and it comes on the day of resurrection with its horns, hoofs and hair, and the blood falls from Allah the Almighty in a place before it touches the ground, so bless yourselves with it”

[At_Tirmithiy, Ibn Majah]

And from the hadith of Anas may Allah be pleased with him, he said:

“The Messenger of Allah PBUH sacrificed two hinted horned rams, I saw him putting his feet on their necks, he named Allah and glorified Him”

[agreed upon]

So he slaughtered them with his honorable hand.

2- Its Wisdom

Its judiciousness is that the capable Muslim expresses his thanks to Allah the Almighty on His many blessings; the blessing of guidance, of survival year after year, the best of you whose life p is long and his deed is good, the blessing of safety and health, the blessing of expansion in the grace of living, and it is a great virtue, and it is an atonement of the sins that were committed, and it is a help to the family of the person who sacrifices, his relatives, friends, neighbors and the poor Muslims.

3- Terms of its obligation

And from the terms of its obligation:
-Affordability, the affluent is the person who owns the quorum in excess of his basic needs, or the person who does not need the price of the sacrifice during the days of Eid only, or the person who does not need the price of the sacrifice during the whole year, with difference between the doctrines in determining the meaning of affluent.

 - The sacrificed animal should be sound from any outrageous flaws that might lead to a decrease in the meat of the sacrifice, or might harm the people who eat it. It is not allowed to sacrifice an animal that is obviously sick, or one-eyed, or lame, or lean or scabby.
-It is also recommended to sacrifice the best and fattest animal, the messenger PBUH used to sacrifice the white horned ram.

4-The Terms of its Obligation:

The time of slaughtering the sacrifice is after the Eid prayer, until the sunset of the third day of Eid. But the best time is the first day after the Eid prayer till just before the sunset, and it is disliked to slaughter at night. The sacrifice should be only camels, cows and sheep, the sheep either lambs or goats, provided that the lamb is at least six months old, and one year for some Imams. And it is acceptable for the Muslim to sacrifice one sheep for himself and the members of his family who live with him. One lamb is enough for the whole family and the people who he is responsible for; they all share the reward.

5-The Slaughter: How it is done, and its citation (Thikr):

And from the terms of the sacrifice is that the person who sacrifices should turn towards qibla, and slaughter the animal himself if he can, and he should say: “In the name of Allah and Allah is Great, O Allah this is from You and to You, O Lord accept it from me and from the members of my family”
(Bism iLLah, Wallahu Akbar, Allahumma hatha minka wa’ilayka, Allahumma taqabbal minni, wamin ahli bayti ). And he may appoint someone else, and then it is recommended for him to attend his sacrifice, for the saying of the prophet PBUH to Fatima May Allah be Pleased with her: "Go to your sacrifice and witness it, for you are forgiven at the first drop of its blood”.

[At-targheeb Wattarheeb from Abu Sa’eed]

6-What to do with a sacrifice:

It is recommended to divide it into three parts; one third is for him and the people who live with him, and he gives one third as a gift to his relatives, friends and neighbors, and the last third he gives as a charity to the poor Muslims, for Allah the Almighty’s saying:

“.. Then eat from them and feed the needy and the beggar”

[Surat Al_Haj, ayah 36]

 And Allah the Almighty said:

“And the camels and cattle We have appointed for you as among the symbols of Allah; for you therein is good. So mention the name of Allah upon them when lined up [for sacrifice]; and when they are [lifeless] on their sides, then eat from them and feed the needy and the beggar. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may be grateful. Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of good. ”

[Surat Al_Haj, ayah 36,37]

Diligence in keeping the obligatory first then the supererogatory:

Honorable brother, it is recommended in these ten days to do what is obligatory first, and thrive to complete them and perform them the best way in which they were initiated, then make sure to do the sunnah prayers and the absolute supererogatory.
By the way Allah declares a war on man in two cases only; in riba usury:

“And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger”

[Surat Al_Baqara, ayah 279]

And in man’s hurting a guardian of Allah, from Abu Hurairah he said: the Messenger of Allah PBUH said:

“Whoever opposes a custodian of mine, then I have declared/informed war against him, and never has my slave drawn near to me with anything more pleasing to Me than what I have obliged on him, and My slave keeps drawing close to Me with supererogatory until I love him, and when love him, I would be his hearing that he hears with, his sight that he sees with, and his hand that he strikes with and his foot that he walks with, and if he asked Me I would give him and if he beseeched forgiveness I would forgive him.”

[Al_Bukhari]

We should consider the virtue of these ten days, these are the best days in the year for those who do not go to pilgrimage, and man has to do a lot of citation (thikr), charity, prayer, fasting and doing the duties, Allah the Almighty does not waste the reward of whoever does good deeds.
It is also recommended to reauthor the whole Quran in the ten days, if not possible, then any parts of the noble Quran.

The Topic if Islamic Banks is not ready for discussion:

Honorable brother, one of you might ask: I promised our honorable brother to talk about the Islamic banks two weeks ago, and the truth is that we agreed with some virtuous preachers that this topic has not been accomplished yet, the detailed regulations of those banks must be sought. We must also know the legitimate parties entrusted to guide those banks. That has not been issued yet, if we run into conclusions and warned people against those banks or encouraged people to those banks, we would be wrong. The matter needs deliberateness and hesitiation, and may Allah the Almighty make things clear after a while.

The Rationing of Allah is for Disciplining not a Result of Deficiency:

Another thing, I promised in a previous sermon to talk about water, and now we are in the sixth week and not a drop of rain has fallen. I assure you that the rationing of Allah could not be out of deficiency, but it is disciplinary, for His saying:

“And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure.”

[Surat Al_Hijr, ayah 21]

And because Allah the Almighty says:

“And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision, So We might test them therein”

[Surat Al_Jin, ayahs 16,17]

“And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth"

[Surat Al_A’raaf, ayah 96]

“And if only they upheld [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord, they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feet.”

[Surat Al_Maa’idah, ayah 66]

And on this ayah, it is measured: And if only they upheld [the law of] the Quran, they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feet.

Allah's Mercy has included everything, where is our obedience?!!!

Some distant observatories spotted a cloud in the outer space that could fill the oceans on the earth sixty times a day with fresh water, it is all in Allah’s hand, the key is in His hand. Allah the Almighty has fixed millions and millions of laws; laws of rotation, physical and chemical laws. All those laws are stable. The features of those things are fixed for the stability of the system and for mercy of man. How could we deal with iron if its properties were not fixed? A large building is constructed, if iron changed its properties, the building would collapse. Metals, semi metals, materials, agriculture, seeds, the uniayah, planets, stars and millions of millions of laws have fixed properties as a mercy to us. But Allah the Almighty made livelihood and health changeable / unfixed in order to discipline us, to draw us to His door, to ask us to resort to Him, to revise ourselves. Draught is a message from Allah the Almighty although the prophet PBUH said in the miracles of sunnah:

“No year is more rainy than another”

[Al_Jami’ from Ibn Mas’oud]

But this fixed rainy block is distributed every year in a special way. Now we are living a draught, and all the crops are threatened, all the projects are waiting in anticipaton, there must be repentance to Allah. Some people say: “let’s perform Istisqa’ prayer (invoke Allah for rain through a special prayer called Istisqa’ prayer), that is good, and it is a sunnah, and I mentioned it last week. Unless this prayer is accompanied with repentance, and establishing Islam in our houses, our work, in gaining our money and spending it, and I always mention that the larger our dishes on the roofs get, the smaller our table dishes get, and the cheaper women’s flesh gets, the more expensive lamb meat gets, and the less bashfulness water gets, the less the rain gets.
Therefore it is not enough to perform Istisqa’ prayer, that is the bitter truth, unless we repent to Allah, unless we change the pattern of our lives, how we spend our free time, unless we review the types pf devices in our homes, unless we review the types of celebrations in our joys and sorrows, unless our income is halal,(lawful) unless we advise each other, unless we have mercy on each other, unless we straighten on the order of Allah, Istisqa’ prayer alone will not get us forward or backward because Allah the Almighty does not deal with formalities, He said:

“And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision, So We might test them therein”

[Surat Al_Jin, ayahs 16,17

"And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth"

[Surat Al_A’raaf, ayah 96

Water is the lifeblood:

Water is the lifeblood of life on the earth; the life of man, animals and plants. Water is the only medium that carries the dissolved minerals and nutrients to the living creature, without water there would be no life on the earth, Allah the Almighty says:

"..and We made from water every living thing?”

[Surat Al_Anbiyaa’, ayah 30]

Therefore Allah the Almighty blesses us and sends us sixteen million tons of water every second. Water constitutes seventy percent of the space on the earth, and it forms seventy percent of man’s weight. Water also has a great role in the process of chemical reactions inside the bodies of man, animal and plant in their getting energy. Water has a role in changing the surface of the earth from the rocky texture to the soil texture through erosion processes. Allah the Almighty mentioned water in the noble Quran thirty three times as an indefinite noun and sixteen times as a definite noun, and He also mentioned sending down the rain from the sky and enlivening the earth after being dead as a sign for the existence of Allah, He said:

“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the [great] ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people, and what Allah has sent down from the heavens of rain, giving life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and dispersing therein every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and the earth are signs for a people who use reason.”

[Surat Al_Baqarah, ayah 164]

The Believer's Attitude Towards Water:

Honorable brother, check out this prophetic guidance, the believer’s attitude towards water should be as mentioned in the Hadith Qudusi (divine) hadith where Allah the Almighty says:

“There are among my slaves a believer in Me and a non believer, as for he who said: we were sent rain thanks to Allah’s and His mercy, he is a believer in Me and a non believer in the planet, but he who said: thanks to such and such, then he is a non believer in Me and a believer in the planet”

[agreed on]

One of the Signs of Allah in the Universe: Salinity of the Seas:

Of the signs of Allah that show His greatness is the salinity that we find in the seas where scientists say: there are twenty seven grams of salt in every liter of sea water, and the whole world consumes over fifty million tons of sea water a year, and the proportion of salt in the sea water is equivalent to three and a half percent of the total sea water, also the cubic kilometer of sea water has thirty four million tons of salt. If the salt is extracted, dried and spread over the land of the five continents not neglecting any place, then the height of the salt on the surface of the land would be a hundred and fifty three meters on all the land.

The Gratitude of Allah on the creation by sending down fresh water:

1-The Blessing of Water:

Allah the Almighty described water as being blessed, that is it has a lot of goodness, Allah Almighty said:

“And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky and made grow thereby gardens and grain from the harvest”

[Surat Qaf, ayah 9]

2-The Necessity of Water to Man:

Allah blessed the believers by sending down rain in which lies the basis of their lives, He said:

“It is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture [animals]. He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.”

[Surat An-Nahl, ayahs 10,11]

3-Water is Puriifying:

Allah the Almighty mentioned one of the great uses of water, purification, He said:

“..And sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.”

[Surat Al_Anfal, ayah 11]

4-Ablution and Bathing With:

Allah the Almighty ordered us to do ablution with water at every prayer, and bathing at every janabah (major ritual impurity), He said:

“O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves.”

[Surat Al_Maa’idah, ayah 6]

Prophetic guidance to economize in water:

1- No extravagance in ablution:

The prophet PBUH ordered us to economize in using water and never be extravagant in using it. Once, he passed by Sa’d may Allah be pleased with him while he was making ablution, he said:

“ What is this extravagance, Sa’d? then Sa’d said: is there extravagance in ablution (wudoo’)? Then the prophet PBUH said: yes, even if you are on a running river”

[Ahmad, Ibn Majah from Ibn Omar]

And from Abu Ad_Darda’ that the prophet PBUH passed by a river, and he had a vessel, he made ablution and a little water was left, so he poured it back into the river, and said:

“ Allah benefits other people with it”

[mentioned in the tradition]

2-Providing drinking water is the best charity:

That is rationalization of water consumption. And the prophet PBUH cleared out that the best charity is providing drinking water, from Sa’d may Allah be pleased with him, that he came to the prophet PBUH and said:

“Which charity is more likeable to you? He said: Water”.

[Abu Daoud from Abu Sa’eed]

And the prophet PBUH showed that:

“People are partners in three: water, grazing and fire”

[Ibn Majah from Ibn Abbas]

4- Prohibiting defiling water:

The prophet PBUH prohibited us from defiling/polluting water; he prohibited urinating in the still water, he also prohibited torture by denying water, dropping/reducing water to people might be a punishment from Allah, Allah the Almighty said:

“And [Allah revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant provision, So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment. ”

[Surat Al_Jin, ayahs 16,17]

There are tens of nightclubs around the rivers in Syria. on many roads, the rivers are surrounded by clubs where alcohol is sold and dancers are watched, and everything in that club is prohibited in Islam, He said:

“And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning."

[Surat Al_A’raaf, ayah 96]

Honorable brother, those are some facts about water, we are in great need of rain, and for rain showers from Allah the Almighty, so let’s repent to Him and ask our Lord night and day, May He have mercy on us,

“ Be it not there are grazing cattle, and kneeling elderly, and feeding infants, torment would be poured down on to you”

[Al_Jami’ As_Sagheer]

I say my words and I ask Allah the Great for forgiveness for you and me, so ask Him for forgiveness, and He will forgive you, what a great gain for those who seek forgiveness.

* * *

All praise be Allah Lord of the worlds, and I testify that there is no God but Allah Custodian of the saliheen ( righteous), and I testify that our master Mohammad is His slave and messenger, the one with great manners, O Allah pray and give peace and blessing to our master Mohammad and his family and his companions.

But Allah would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them,

Honorable brother, the believer seeks his best and to the maximum means he has to spread the truth among people, but if they do not respond to this invitation, what should he do? Set things straight between him and Allah, and hold a peaceful repentance with Allah, and apply the orders of Allah in his house, work and his own self, and the ayah that shows this:

“But Allah would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them,”

[Surat Al_Anfal, aya 33]

As long as we apply the prophetic guidance is in our houses, our businesses, our activities, our movements, our quietness, our sorrows, our joy, our earning money and spending it. If we apply the methodology of the prophet PBUH, with the script of the ayah, it is impossible for Allah the Almighty to punish us, why? Because when Allah the Almighty said:

“But the Jews and the Christians say, “We are the children of Allah and His beloved.”

[Surat Al_Maa’idah, ayah 18]

What did he answer them with?

“Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins?"

[Surat Al_Maa’idah, ayah 18]

That is He did not accept their claim, if He had accepted it, He wouldn’t have tortured/ punished them. From that Imam Shafi’I concluded that Allah the Almighty does not torture/ punish His beloved ones, and if Muslims said: we are the nation of Mohammad, we are the last nation, we are the chosen nation, we are the good nation, the best nation brought to people as Allah the Almighty said, the divine answer to whoever claims that:

“Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins?" Rather, you are human beings from among those He has created.”

[Surat Al_Maa’idah, ayah 18]

If the Muslim does not respond to Allah the Almighty, then he has no privilege/merit with Allah the Almighty. In summary, he did not take Allah’s order seriously, so Allah did not take him seriously. We must return to Allah, we must reconcile with Him, we must return to the approach of Allah the Almighty in every aspect of our lives may Allah have mercy on us.
