Islamic selected passages (8): Why Does Allah Give Respite to the Oppressor?

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Why does Allah give respite to the oppressor?

Praise be to Allah, The Lord (The One and Only) of the Worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Master Muhammad, the Truthful and the Faithful.

If punishment followed the bad deed immediately, the freedom of choice would be canceled completely. You have the choice to disobey Allah by cheating in your goods or by illogically raising the prices or by monopolizing goods. However, Allah knows what you are doing, and He gives you respite. Hence, you make hefty profits, and then the punishment will come. If the punishment came immediately after the sin, the freedom of choice would be canceled. Thus, there is a short or long respite, and then the Divine Response will take place. Similarly, rewarding comes after the act of obedience (to Allah), and the respite between the good deed and its results, or between the bad deed and its results emphasizes the freedom of choice man has.
