Praise be to Allah Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings upon Sayyidina Muhammad, the honest and the trustworthy. Oh, Allah, we know nothing but what You teach us. You are the All- Knower, the Wise. Oh Allah, teach us what is good for us, and benefit us from what You taught us, and increase our knowledge. Show us the righteous things as righteous and help us to do them, and show us the bad things as bad and help us to keep away from them O Allah our lord make us amongst those who listen to the Word and follow the best meaning of it, and admit us, by Thy Grace, to the ranks of Thy righteous Servants.
If there is a doubt in your faith, you are not a true believer
Dear brother, we have reached the main point of the subject of Islamic creed which is believing in Allah. Allah the Almighty says:
"Only those are the believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and afterward doubt not but strive with their wealth and their lives for the Cause of Allah. Those! They are the truthful."
Actually, the one who feels any doubt in his faith is not a true believer, as there is no compromise in believing in Allah; i.e. , either you fully believe in Allah to the extent that even if all people on the earth disbelieve in Him, you will not, or you have doubt, suspicions, or hesitation in your faith, which means it is not true faith. The decisive evidence is the following Noble Ayah in which Allah the Almighty says:
"Only those are the believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and afterward doubt not"
Which means if they doubt, then they will no more be described as true believers.
The evidences for believing in Allah
1-The evidence of Fitrah and intuition and its results
Man believes in Allah instinctively. Actually, the subject of today's lecture is divided into two parts:
1 – Believing in Allah by instinct.
2 – Believing in Allah by evidences.
The Fitrah (natural inborn instinct which recognizes Allah) is like a pure clean mirror which reflects anything in front of it, but if there is a thick smoke near it, it will lose its clearness and its ability to reflect, at this moment the need for evidence appears. So, believing in Allah is either by sound Fitrah, or by rational evidence and scientific proof. In the last lectures, I tackled the subject of Fitrah and I clarified that there are four ways for certainty:
1-the sensory certainty.
2- the deductive certainty.
3- the revelation certainty.
4- the luminous Fitrah certainty .
1 – Innate faith arises in times of adversity:
In general, any man whether he is old or young, literate or ignorant, rich or poor, powerful or weak, living in the city or in the countryside, genius or stupid, believes innately that there is no one to be worshipped but Allah. To illustrate this point, consider the example a bigoted atheist who has too many proofs according to his false perception that there is no God, and who boards a ship, then in the middle of the sea, the waves become as mountains, and the ship moves between the waves as a feather in the wind, that atheist will then turn to Allah the Almighty to help him. Also, a number of atheist experts boarded a plane, and when the plane flew through air pockets, and they knew for sure that it would almost fall, they invoked Allah sincerely to help them. So, man believes in Allah by Fitrah, but in times of peace, affluence, wealth and power he insists stubbornly on his infidelity.
Once, a man told me that he grew up in an atheist family which entirely denied the existence of Allah. He learnt a craft from an atheist man too who taught him that there is no God, and that he can do whatever he wants as the only aim in life is to gain pleasures. So, he behaved in that way, he committed all sins, he worked as a trader which made him fairly wealthy, he got married, then he travelled to many western countries and committed all sins there. Then suddenly all his goods were confiscated which left him bankrupt and in debt, in addition to that, the creditors harshly demanded him to pay back the debt, his children and his wife got sick but he could afford neither the drugs nor enough food for them, until he suffered extreme distress, he said to me: I felt that I was facing such horrible disasters that if they were sent to a mountain, they would pull it down. Then one day I found myself entering a mosque to pray there, which means he was motivated by his Fitrah.
Also, consider the following story of an atheist who had committed many bad deeds, his young daughter fell seriously ill, and he spent all his wealth to cure her, till one doctor told him that she had no hope to survive, and he should let her die. He took her with him to his work every day fearing that she might die while he was out, due to his great love for her, and he insisted on believing that there is no God. Her temperature was 40 and it remained 40 although he visited all pediatricians, and tried all medicines, nevertheless her temperature did not go down, till a pediatrician whispered in his ear that her disease was a rare one and her temperature will never go down but at her death. One day, he asked his wife to prepare water for him to make Ghusl [ ritual washing required in Islam for various rituals and prayers] in order to pray, and he asked her what to reauthor in Salah as he had not prayed before and he did not even know Al-Fatihah, his wife said that he stood in Salah for half an hour crying and invoking Allah saying:" O Allah, either You make my daughter die or make me die or cure her". So when Allah afflicted him with this calamity, his sound Fitrah appeared refuting his claims that there is no God. As soon as he finished his Salah with Taslim, his daughter's temperature came down and she started to move after she was suffering muscle hardening.
Consider the following statement: there is no one who denies the Existence of Allah the Almighty but he will say on the Day of Resurrection:
"There will then be (left) no Fitnah (excuses or statements or arguments) for them but to say: "By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who joined sh3er in worship with Allah." * Look! How they lie against themselves! But the (lie) which they invented will disappear from them."
But when they denied the Existence of Allah, they were lying, insisting on Kufr stubbornly, and they were exaggerating. Actually, man should turn to Allah not in times of calamity, but in times of ease, and your real triumph is to get closer to Allah while you are healthy, and at your best as regards your health, power, wealth, and spare time, not to get closer to Him after an extremely great hardship.
2-Human disturbance and feeling at ease are evidences of Fitrah
Dear brother, man believes in Allah by Fitrah, and the evidence of that is that when he believes in Allah he feels at ease, but when he denies the Existence of Allah he feels disturbed, disordered, uneasy, bored, and tired, and he shows very harsh reactions for simple deeds, which psychologists consider as a proof of his inner disturbance because he has contradicted the Fitrah. Consider the example of an engine, if you fill it with water, it will produce disturbed sounds then it will stop, and you will feel that it is an unusual situation. Likewise, man believes in Allah by Fitrah, however, this does not mean that there is no evidence of Allah's Existence, rather there are millions of evidences of that, but before mentioning some of the logical and mental evidences, I like to draw your attention to the fact that man believes in Allah by Fitrah.
Quoting some scientists' statements about Fitrah
Scientists say: the newly born baby has a natural reflex called the sucking reflex which is a fairly complicated process; even after one hour of birth, when the mother puts her newly born baby near her breast, he will put it in his mouth tightly, and then he will suck the milk, which is really a complicated process, so how is this Fitrah (instinct) created? By instinct, the baby knows how to suck the milk perfectly. While animals are not charged with religious duties, and as they are not provided with reason, they are provided with hundreds of reflexes which scientists call: instinct; a fairly complicated mechanism but it is ready and does not need learning. On the other hand, for human beings, our newly born babies are provided with the suckling reflex which cannot be explained (how the baby has it) except by instinct, i.e. the child by instinct puts his mother's breast in his mouth and sucks the milk which is one proof of the Fitrah( instinct). Let me give you another proof of Fitrah: it is the great affection that the mother feels for her child without realizing the value of this affection. Actually, if msh3er had not had this affection, no human being would have been alive.
The proof of Fitrah is self-evident truth
When the mother takes care of her child, when the father provides his child with all his needs every day, when he works hard and endures all risks to do that, and when he feels an indescribable happiness when he sees his child living in a warm house, wearing clean clothes and eating whatever he wants, then this is the meaning of Fitrah (the parents' instinctive love for their children).
If we want to consider thoroughly the meaning of Fitrah, we will find that if the parents did not have this affection, life would not have continued, which is a mental perception, nevertheless, the father has this feeling without reflecting deeply on its denotation. Also, who can deny the mother's emotion? No one, because it is self-evident truth, but there is no proof on it because her feeling is considered the proof and her feeling is by Fitrah; in other words, the innate sensation does not need a proof because it is self-evident truth that does not need evidences, like the fact that the whole of something is greater than the part of it, you cannot give evidences for it because it is crystal clear . (either you put crystal clear or you put clear as the sun, but putting both is redundant)
A man told me that once he faced a deficit in his business, i.e. he suffered a loss, life got very hard on him, then he met a merchant who came from a distant country , and who belonged to another religion, that merchant gave him some goods worth 50 thousand SYP, and asked him to sell them then pay him back their price when he was able to manage his affairs. He told me that he felt great love for him, which is according to his Fitrah, as his real brother did not help him, while that man who came from a distant country knew about his situation and supported him with those goods in order to manage his affairs despite the fact that he belonged to another religion.
Do not wonder how Muslims conquered other countries; it is due to their perfect morals, because when they had high moral ideals, the people in those countries showed them the hard ways through mountains, as there are many rugged mountains in North Africa and Asia. Actually, if the people in those countries had hated the Muslim conquerors, they would not have been able to conquer those well-fortified countries, but out of their perfection, their mercy and their fairness, they conquered their hearts before their countries. So what helped Muslims to conquer those countries were the people of these countries themselves, which is according to their Fitrah. In conclusion, msh3er feel great affection for their children without knowing the value of this affection. Verily, without this affection, we would not have been alive.
People's reality is the greatest proof of Fitrah
Driven by their instinct, all people are interested in earning their living, which is a hidden motive. For example, when someone runs a shop successfully, he feels at ease because he has insured his living, also, when there is a bountiful harvest of wheat, the farmer feels at ease because he has insured the provisions, and so on. So this feeling is according to the Fitrah. Actually, can you deny the sensation of hunger? Can you prove it? It does not need any evidence, as it is exists by instinct. My words do not mean that there are no evidences of the Existence of Allah, rather there are millions of evidences, but I'd like to assure you that you, as a human being, believe in Allah instinctively.
However, to clarify why some people do not believe in Allah, consider the example of a clear polished mirror which perfectly reflects everything, but when there is heavy smoke from a candle near it, it loses its transparency and its ability of reflection, at that time we are in need of evidences. So when the mirror is clear, we do not need any proof.
Sometimes, man needs to eat something sour because the calcium rate in his body is high, and it is not dissolved except in acid. Also, when someone likes to add more sour taste to the salad, or when a girl likes to eat lemon with salt, the reason for that is that when there is a high rate of calcium, Allah creates a desire for citrus fruit inside the human according to His Deep Wisdom. sometimes man desires salty food because his body lacks salt, while when he sometimes feels a desire for sweet food, this is because his body lacks energy. hence, man's desire for the types of food is related to his needs.
Some scientists carried out an experiment on some kids, they presented various kinds of food to a group of 10 children (so they could eat whatever they wanted), while they brought another group of ten children and asked some experts in nutrition to watch over their feeding; as regards calories, proteins, fats, sugars, minerals, semi-metals, fruit, meat, and so on. They achieved the result that the children who ate according to their personal desires grew better than the other group because the personal desire is based on an inner need. So, when you feel the desire for sour food, this means you have a high rate of calcium in your body, and when you feel desire for salty food, your body lacks salt, also when you want to drink water, this is because your body lacks water, and so on. All these are instinctive feelings, which do not need proofs, rather our feeling itself is considered an evidence.
The instinctive feeling is common among all mankind
The innate sensation is a common feeling among all rational creatures despite their different tendencies, social levels and education, whether living in primitive societies or in civilized cities, whether in the Forum of intellectuals, or in the auditorium of science, art and laboratories. So, it is a common feeling among all people, which the young child experiences as well as the primitive man, the civilized, the ignorant, the scientist, the researcher, the philosopher, the genius, and the expert in a laboratory, and so on, all of them know for sure that Allah is the Right, and That He has power over everything, He knows everything, everything happens according to His Will, and there is no doubt about Him.
Once, I read a statement by the greatest atom scientist, who has discovered the newest theory which is the theory of relativity, he said: "Whoever does not believe that there is an extremely powerful, an ll knowing and an absolutely wise power in this universe, is a living person but in reality he is dead. "
Some Ayaat which confirm the fact of human Fitrah
Consider the following ayaat which confirm the facts mentioned earlier:
"Their Messengers said: "What! Can there be a doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you (to Monotheism and to be obedient to Allah) that He may forgive you of your sins and give you respite for a term appointed." They said: "You are no more than human beings like us! You wish to turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. Then bring us a clear authority i.e. a clear proof of what you say)."
Allah is the One Who created the heavens and the earth and they believe in Him.
"The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His Praise. But you understand not their glorification. Truly, He is Ever Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving."
So, Allah has created the heavens and the Earth, and they believe in Him driven by their creation. In another Ayah, Allah the Almighty says:
"So set you (O Muhammad PBUH) your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism Hanifa (worship none but Allah Alone) Allah's Fitrah (i.e. Allah's Islamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in Khalq-illah (i.e. the Religion of Allah Islamic Monotheism), that is the straight religion, but most of men know not. "
Fitrah exists even in plants
I hope you fully comprehend the following critical point: consider the obvious example of the plants, for example; some plants should be watered just once a week, if you water them more, they will die, while other plants should be watered 3 times a week, and another plants should be watered once a month, and so on. Actually, the expert gardener can tell you about the nature of every plant species, for example, some plants never bloom except in the sun rays, sh3er grow in the shade, and other plants need light. Also, some plants grow inside the rooms, some should be watered a lot, and some plants never grow except when they are deluged in water like lilies. So, Allah the Almighty has created two things in plants: the outer shape which you see by your eyes, such as its length, shape, leaves, colors, and flowers, and things you discover by time which is its nature, or in other words the Fitrah which Allah has created in it; i.e. its needs, its types, its harvest times, and its blooming times which is very precise. For example, some plants bloom twice a year, other's leaves drop, some have fragrant flowers, other flowers have no scent, some have dense leaves, sh3er not, and so on. So Allah has created Fitrah inside plants, and the expert farmer knows the nature of each plant species, for example: apples grow in the highlands, while citrus fruits grow on the coasts, also some plants grow in Africa where there is high humidity, sh3er grow in the desert like the Spininess, sh3er grow in the poles, sh3er in the bottom of the sea, and sh3er in the rivers and so on. Thus, this is the Fitrah which Allah has created in each creature.3 – The deviation of Fitrah and its demise:
Instinctively, man loves perfection and benevolence, and he was created weak, ever hasty, impatient and anxious, which is according to the Fitrah Allah has created inside him. Allah the Almighty says:
"So set you (O Muhammad PBUH) your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism Hanifa (worship none but Allah Alone) Allah's Fitrah (i.e. Allah's Islamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in Khalq-illah (i.e. the Religion of Allah Islamic Monotheism), that is the straight religion, but most of men know not. "
This Fitrah may become blurred because of man's indulgence in desires, and as a result man loses his humanity and becomes like a monster. For example, a woman in France locked her house door and travelled to her friend's house leaving her child inside it, after two weeks her child died of hunger and thirst, so this is one of the rare cases in which the mother's Fitrah is distorted. Also, a countryman slaughtered his wife and his five children out of his distorted Fitrah.
Actually, the issue of Fitrah is very wide, but to avoid complication, man believes in Allah according to his psychology, to his nature, and to his Fitrah which Allah has created in him, which is an original concept, but when he disbelieves in Allah or denies His Existence or becomes an atheist, he will become unbalanced and his responses and reactions will became harsh, and he will become close to madness, like the one who was so stubborn that he divorced his wife for a silly reason, or who dissolved his company with his partner for a trivial reason, or who killed a man because that man's cow entered his land and ate some grass! These are real stories but are rare cases.
2- Believing in Allah by evidences
1 - The universe, and whatever it includes:
If we put the Fitrah aside, the scientific research, including the theoretical deduction, the experiments, and the tests, is a way to get to know the Existence of Allah the Almighty. Consider the following fairly critical point: the religion of Islam was sent from Allah the Almighty Who knows everything, and these galaxies, the sun, the moon, the seas, the heavens, the birds, the fishes, the plants, and the animals are created according to His Great Knowledge. For example, when someone kills a mosquito, he does not feel guilty, a twinge of conscience, or a sense that he has committed a crime, a sin, or a wrongdoing, or that he has killed a soul without any reason, because he considers it worthless, however, this mosquito has a radar, a blood testing device, a blood diluting device, an anesthesia device, a wing which hovers 4 thousand times per second, three hearts, suckers, and claws, moreover it is intelligent; it hides behind the curtains or behind the bed, so when you wake up and turn on the light you cannot find it, it hides because it knows that you're angry at it and you want to kill it, therefore it conceals itself in a place where you do not see it, which indicates Allah's Knowledge.
Also, the creation of the whale indicates the Knowledge of Allah, it's weight is about one hundred and thirty tons, and its length is thirty to forty meters. It has 50 tons fat , fifty tons of meat, and about 30 tons of bones, and you can take out 90 barrels of oil from it. Its light meal is about 4 tons, and a baby whale needs more than 300 kg's of milk for each suckling, so is it reasonable that it was created without knowledge?!
Furthermore, does not the creation of the birds indicate Allah's Knowledge? Once, I read in a magazine about aviation that the Concorde airplane, the greatest invention in our century, cannot be compared with a bird (with the flying system of the bird)! It can carry 400 passengers in which they feel as if they are in a real city, everything is available; food, drink, and many seats, although they are 40 thousand feet above the earth's surface, nevertheless the bird is greater than the plane. Also, the sea, the clouds, the rain, the mountains, the minerals and the semi-metals indicate Allah's Knowledge. Actually, physics is included by the knowledge of Allah, for example you may find an eight-hundred page physics reference book about the chemical physics, the electricity, the sound, the heat, the nuclear physics, the organic and the inorganic chemistry, and so on. This is the Knowledge of Allah, but man just discovered it. Hence, astronomy, medicine, animals, fishes and everything discovered by science are encompassed by the Knowledge of Allah:
"And they ask you (O Muhammad PBUH) concerning the Ruh (the Spirit); Say: "The Ruh (the Spirit): it is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little."
"Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. [This Verse 2:255 is called Ayat-ul-Kursi.]
If you go to a large library, you will find about a hundred thousand volumes about the human body, for example, you will find a six-volume book about the heart, which is written in small-sized letters, and each volume includes 800 pages on the heart. Two days ago, I read a book about the heart, I was surprised and I could hardly understand it. Also, there are large volumes about the lungs, the brain, the muscles, and bones. This is the Knowledge of Allah and His Religion. So is it reasonable to find any mistake or contradiction in the Religion of Allah? Or are there any illogical matters in it? Impossible, because everything in the Universe is the Creation of Allah and the Noble Qur'an is the Words of Allah the Almighty.
2 – The Knowledge:
There should be harmony between the Creation of Allah (everything in the universe) and the Words of Allah (the Noble Qur'an), in other words, there is absolute precision in His Words, in His Legislation, in His Prophets and in His Qur'an. I want to clarify the following point to you: the absolute truth never fears researches, i.e. no matter how science advances after 2 thousand years or even after 5 thousand years, science will never discover any fact that contradicts what is mentioned in the Noble Qur'an, it is impossible because the universe is Allah's Creation and the Noble Qur'an is Allah's Words. Hence, it is utterly impossible to discover anything which contradicts our religion, rather the more science advances, the closer it gets to the Islamic religion.
Once, a surgeon said to me : whenever I want to cure an incurable septic wound , I put honey on it, because I learnt in Britain to put honey on incurable septic wounds and they will be cured after two days. Glory to Allah! Allah the Almighty says:
"Then, eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you)." There comes forth from their bellies, a drink of varying colour wherein is healing for men. Verily, in this is indeed a sign for people who think."
Then I realized that honey is more likely to be a medicine than just a kind of food, furthermore, it is described by some scientists as "a comprehensive pharmacy."
Hence, the absolute truth never fears researches, therefore do not fear that you may read a scientific article in a magazine that contradicts a Noble Ayah, because the Qur'an is the Word of the Creator of the universe, so it is impossible that there is something in His Word that contradicts His Creation. When you call people to Allah, tell them that they can read whatever they want, they can go wherever they want, they can discuss with whoever they want, nevertheless, the right remains right and the falsehood remains falsehood. Once, I read an interesting article which defeats Darwin's theory of evolution, according to the sex of the fetus, they found the skull which is the missing link between the human skull and ape's skull, hence the truth never fears researches. Actually, it is really wrong not to have the habit of reading, and the worst man in the society is the one who is semi-knowledgeable; i.e. the one who has got a certificate, then he considers himself a scholar. sometimes ignorance has beneficial results, as the ignorant person is modest and he has the motivation to learn, on the other hand knowledge is beneficial, but the worst thing is to learn something and to miss many things, and to consider yourself a knowledgeable man while you are not, like the one who has learnt about Darwin's theory of evolution in that secondary school, so it remained in his mind that man evolved from an ape. Nowadays, I believe that this theory is reversed, i.e. when man is only interested in his desires and has no value at all, he will become as an ape.
So, the truth never fears researches. Do not worry if you travel to the disbeliever's countries and meet the greatest scientists, do not fear for your faith, there is no time to speak about this subject in details, however, there are some great atheist scientists who believed when they reauthord some Ayaat of the Noble Qur'an that they are sent from the Creator of the universe, because it is so obvious. For example, it was scientifically discovered that the Arab countries were full of gardens and rivers many centuries ago, how did scientists know that? they knew that through studying fossils, as there are entire cities buried under the sand in the Empty Quarter (the largest sand desert in the world), there are also some trunks of large trees, petrified fossils, and river sediments. , according to the recent information, there is a scientific prediction that Arab countries will return to be meadows and rivers. A geologist read this noble Hadith in which the Prophet PBUH said:
"The Last Hour will not come before wealth becomes abundant and overflowing, so much so that a man takes Zakat out of his property and cannot find anyone to accept it from him, and till the land of Arabia returns to be meadows and rivers."
Hence, there are some facts in the Noble Qur'an, and whenever science advances, some of these facts are discovered. As Imam Ali, may Allah honor his face said: " there are some Ayaat in the Noble Qur'an that are not interpreted yet, but whenever science advances, they are interpreted" Hence, the absolute truth never fears researches.
In fact, our religion is based on knowledge, because the Creator; Allah the Almighty is the All-Knowing, and Islam is His Religion which is based on knowledge. So do not fear for your faith, as I mentioned earlier, when you hold a dialogue with a disbeliever, rather if you have a strong faith, you will not worry to dialogue with anyone on the surface of the earth.
How to explain any contradiction between science and Qur'an
Consider the following note: if you face something in your real life or a scientific fact which contradicts with anything in Islamic religion, how do you explain that? There are three explanations:
1-The scientific research is on trial and is not proved yet
The first explanation is that the scientific research is not verified yet and is only a theory, like the Darwin's theory of evolution which will not turn into reality, and which is contrary to the tests of the Noble Qur'an, so it is unproved theory. Moreover, the western scientists refute and reject it and they mock those who still believe in it. So, when I meet someone who believes in it, I say to him that he has old information as the European scientists mock those who still believe in it. Thus, if there is a contradiction between the science and religion, this is because the scientific research is not verified yet and is still a theory.
2- A false or a fabricated tradition
The second explanation is that the tradition which was transmitted is not true, for example, there are 200 thousand fabricated Ahadith, so if you read a fabricated or a weak Hadith which contradicts a scientific fact, ignore that Hadith as the fabricated Hadith contradicts the science.
3- to misunderstand the Islamic text
The third explanation is that we may misinterpret or misunderstand the Prophetic Hadith.
In conclusion, there are three cases: either we misunderstand the Noble Hadith, or the Noble Hadith itself is fabricated, or the scientific research is an unproven theory. These cases explain the contradictions which sometimes occur between science and religion.
No matter how science advances, it never contradicts religion
The absolute facts which are mentioned in the Islamic religion, and the results which science reaches through definite certain ways are in complete accordance with one another, and they should meet at a point, as there is just one sole truth as regards the ideological and fixed matters. For example, if you draw a straight line between two points, and you want to draw another straight line between them, the second line will definitely be identical to the first one. Figuratively, the first line is the knowledge while the second line is the religion, so they should be in total harmony with each other. However, if the first line does not reach one of the two points, it will be inclined, and there will be a difference between the two lines as the first one does not pass through the two points.
A Muslim should not refute a scientific fact to defend Islam
In the time of Al-Ghazali, (an Islamic Scholar), scientists discovered that the solar and the lunar eclipses are based on a rule, so they were able to define the time when the moon would eclipse, as when the moon locates between the earth and the sun, there will be a solar eclipse, while when the earth locates between the sun and the moon, there will be a lunar eclipse. So, in the time of Al-Ghazali, scientists discovered this rule, however many scholars disapproved that and accused them of heresy and infidelity, so Al-Ghazali replied to those scholars saying:" he who thinks that debating the scientists in order to refute that scientific rule (which defines the times of lunar and sular eclipse), has done harm to this religion and has weakened it, as these rules are based on definite geometric and arithmetic evidences", so when you say to the one who is sure of these rules that they are against the Islamic law, he will not doubt these rules but he will doubt the Islamic law itself.
Actually, if you say to any person in Europe that there is an Islamic scholar who denies that the earth is round, will he doubt his knowledge or the Islamic religion? Of course he will doubt the Islamic religion. In 1975, it was mentioned in a magazine in a western country that a scholar said that the earth is flat, while people went to the moon and saw that the earth is spherical like a globe. In addition to that, they took photographs of it, and the scientific magazines are full of these photos, and there are satellites' photos of the earth each minute. So, Al-Ghazali said: " As regards the one who is sure of these scientific rules, if you say to him that they are against the Islamic law, he will doubt the Islamic law not these facts, and in this way you are doing harm to the Islamic religion"
Hence, do not hasten to refute any scientific fact, because science never contradicts the religion. Also, do not reject a fixed scientific fact in order to defend Islam as Islam never refutes it. For example, when Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet PBUH died, the sun eclipsed by chance, so the companions of the Prophet PBUH thought that it eclipsed as a sign of mourning for his death, but the Prophet PBUH said:
" The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the Signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. "
Hence, it is a cosmic sign.
So, do not defend Islam by refuting a true scientific fact, rather this fact is in accordance with the Islamic religion. For example, as regards earthquakes, they have scientific explanations as they are caused by a movement in the interior of the earth which leads to the shaking of the earth's crust, which has a very complex explanation. However, it is also right to say that the earthquake is a punishment from Allah the Almighty. So, it could have a scientific geological explanation and it also could have a religious explanation, and these two explanations are complementary and in harmony with each other, i.e. the earthquake is caused by a movement in the earth's interior, and this movement is created by Allah the Almighty, it is too simple. So, you can say that an earthquake hit a city because people there were deviated, which is a right religious explanation, and you can also say that the earthquake is a shake in the earth's crust and displacement of the layers of the earth. You can also say that when the lava is forced out from the earth's interior to its upper layers, the volcano erupts.
In conclusion, science never contradicts Islamic religion, rather there are complete coincidence between them.
Therefore, when a child gets ill, his father should take him to the doctor and should give him the medicine, then he should depend upon Allah the Almighty, the Creator of the causes (the causes of recovery). As it was said: follow all reasons then depend upon Allah, which is the essence of the Islamic religion. So, be sure that until the end of life, no scientific truth will contradict any Ayah in the Noble Qur'an, because the Noble Qur'an is Allah's Word and the universe is His Creation, so it is impossible that there is any contradiction in His Word, or that His Word contradicts His Creation .
