Easy labor and dates:

Dear believing brothers, in Surat Maryam, where the story of Maryam is narrated, there is a scientific fact that a recent medical research has discovered to be the most essential factor for easy labor and delivery. Allah the Almighty said addressing Maryam:

("And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you."* "So eat and drink and be glad…)

[Maryam, 25-26]

Concerning the clause "and be glad…", scholars deduced that the psychological status of a pregnant woman before giving birth is closely related to easy delivery. In other words, if the she is relaxed, glad and tranquil, if she has no problems at home, and her husband treats her well especially before giving birth, she will have easy labor. Thus, her good psychological status, relaxation and peace of mind are important factors in facilitating delivery.

On the other hand, any psychological disturbance, emotional breakdown or argument before giving birth could affect delivery. Her labor could be hard, and she would not give birth easily.
As for "So eat…", Allah the Almighty addressed Maryam, saying to her:

("And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you.")

[Maryam, 25]

It has been lately discovered that dates contain a substance that helps the uterus to contract. As you know the size of the normal uterus is about 2.5 square centimeters, but the size of a pregnant woman's uterus could reach about 750 square centimeters.

The fetus is on the placenta that is connected to the mother's arteries. When the fetus gets out of the uterus and the placenta follows it, these arteries are cut, and if they remained open, the mother would keep bleed to death.

So, due to Allah's Profound Wisdom, the uterus contracts till it becomes as hard as a rock.

That is why a midwife puts her hand on the belly of the woman who has given birth to check that it is hard. In this case she knows that the delivery was right as the uterus would contract to close all the open arteries and stop bleeding.
Dates have a substance that helps the uterus to contract, and that is why they were mentioned when Maryam was about to give birth. Allah the Almighty said to her:

("And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you.")

[Maryam, 25]

Dates also have a substance that cleans the large intestines from the wastes. This substance is cleansing and laxative.

Gynecologist or the midwife advise pregnant women to have their intestines empty before delivery, because if they are full they could obstruct the movement of the fetus out of the uterus . As mentioned, dates have substances that soften and clean the intestines, particularly the large ones.

One more thing, the labor is exhausting, and the heart rate increases from 80 or 100 beats per minute to 180 beats per minute in order to endure these violent fluctuations. Accordingly, both the

heart and the muscles need good nutrition and the nutrients in dates need only twenty minutes to be in the blood. Thus, it is the easiest food to be digested and turned into energy.

One last thing, dates contain substances that prevent bleeding, help the uterus to contract, clean and soften the intestines and provide the pregnant woman with the necessary sugar in the easiest and shortest way. Allah the Almighty said:

("And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you.")

[Maryam, 25]

The sweetness of dates and its relation to labor:

The sugar in dates is highly condensed, so it needs a liquid to be easily dissolved. Allah the Almighty said addressing Maryam:

(So eat and drink…)

Why does man feel thirsty after eating sweets? Why is this feeling installed in him by Fitrah? Because sweets need to be dissolved, and so to be easily digested. Therefore, drinking water is important for a pregnant woman who is about to give birth Good psychological condition is also

essential for easy delivery. In addition, her food should contain four elements: one that helps her uterus to contract, another one that prevents bleeding, one that cleans and softens her intestines and one that provides her with the required nutrients in the easiest and fastest way.

All these facts are mentioned in the Noble Quran, which is the Words of the Lord of the Worlds. They are only a few words mentioned in a story, but if you ponder over them, you will discover wonders in them. Allah the Almighty says:

("And shake the trunk of date-palm towards you, it will let fall fresh ripe-dates upon you."* "So eat and drink and be glad…)

[Maryam, 25-26]

There must be a special kind of food, a drink and tranquility maintained for the pregnant woman before giving birth.

Dear brothers, these are some of the Ayat from the Quran. You can notice that the more science advances the more scientists believe that these Ayat are the Words of the Lord of the Worlds, the Creator of the universes and not the words of a human being.
