Books- Allah is the Greatest- Paragraph (21-25): Visiting the Master of Mankind, Muhammad, peace be upon him.
In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful  


After the pilgrims finish the rituals of Hajj (pilgrimage), they head towards Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, the most beloved land to Allah the Almighty, in order to visit (the grave of) the Master of all mankind, Muhammad, peace be upon him. It was reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: 

(Whoever performs Hajj and visits me after my death, it is as if he had visited me during my life)

In his noble chamber a tablet of the following Ayah is hanged:  

(If they (hypocrites), when they had been unjust to themselves, had come to you (Muhammad PBUH) and begged Allah's Forgiveness, and the Messenger had begged forgiveness for them: indeed, they would have found Allah All-Forgiving (One Who accepts repentance), Most Merciful.)

[An-Nisa', 64]

Imam Al-Qurtubi said that the Ayah indicates that people can come to the Prophet, peace be upon, and ask him to ask Allah to forgive them during his life and after his death. Only the Prophet, peace be upon him, is privileged with this honor. 

Imam Al-Qasimi, the writer of the most famous interpretation of the Noble Quran, said that in this Ayah, there is an indication to the exalted rank of the Prophet, peace be upon him. According to this interpretation, if man wrongs himself by not adhering to the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, he has to ask Allah to forgive him, and to apologize to the Prophet, peace be upon him. In other words, repentance is not accepted in this case unless it is accompanied with asking for the forgiveness of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Moreover, adhering to the Prophet’s sunna is an act of obedience to Allah, rejecting his sunna is an act of disobedience to Allah, and pleasing the Prophet peace be upon him is like pleasing Allah. 

This meaning is deduced from the singular pronoun that is used (it is Yurduh: to please him in the Ayah in Arabic and it is interpreted as "and His Messenger") although it refers to Allah and the Messenger, peace be upon him. 

(They swear by Allah to you (Muslims) in order to please you, but it is more fitting that they should please Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad PBUH),)

The singular pronoun is used because pleasing the Prophet, peace be upon him, is pleasing Allah the Almighty, and disobeying him is in itself a sin committed against Allah the Almighty. The following Ayah is the strongest proof of this point:  

(He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad PBUH), has indeed obeyed Allah, but he who turns away, then we have not sent you (O Muhammad PBUH) as a watcher over them.)

[An-Nisa', 80]

In another Ayah, Allah the Almighty says: 

(Say (O Muhammad PBUH to mankind): "If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.")

[Aal-'Imran, 31]

The secret behind the extreme happiness that fills the heart of whoever visits the grave of the Prophet, peace be upon him, is that the minute the visitor comes closer to Al-Madinah, his heart start beating quickly, and once he sees the Rawdah (the sacred chamber of the Prophet, peace be upon him), he starts crying (out of reverence). Only then, his soul gets purified from all distress, flaws and bad feelings, and it will be filled with ecstasy due to being close to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and love to him. Actually, this is the intercession the Prophet, peace be upon him, referred to.   

(If someone comes to visit me in such a way that no other cause incites him to come, he will have a right upon me that I will be his intercessor on the Day of Resurrection.)

The Quranic proof of the tranquility and happiness that fill the heart of the one who connects to Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him, in one way or another, is the following Ayah in which Allah the Almighty says: 

(Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allah for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them)

[At-Taubah, 103]

Ar-Razi said in his interpretation of the Noble Quran, "The soul of Muhammad, peace be upon him, used to be strong, radiant and bright, because of his extreme closeness to Allah the Almighty, and because his heart is the place where the inspiration from Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He, resided. Thus, whenever his companions, may Allah be pleased with them, mentioned his noble traits and compassion, and whenever the believers mentioned him with respect and love, his spiritual power will affect them, making their souls radiant and their inner self tranquil." This interpretation can be applied to the following Ayah:        

(Allah sends His Salat (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy, etc.) on the Prophet (Muhammad PBUH) and also His angels too (ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salat on (ask Allah to bless) him (Muhammad PBUH), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation i.e. As-Salamu 'Alaikum).)
