Ramadan Hadiths- (24): True Fast

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

(If one does not eschew lies and false conduct, Allah has no need that he should abstain from his food and his drink.)

[Bukhari]

Abstaining from food and drink in Ramadan only is the kind of Siyaam (fasting) that is purposeless, and it makes Ramadan a social month when parties, meetings, banquets, visits and other distractions take place. It almost becomes the month of art. We are Muslims; Ramadan should be for us the month of worship. This entails full devotion and taking control over our senses, limbs and tongues.
Dear brothers, do you know who is the miserable? He is the one who offers the acts of worships heedlessly. When Allah orders you to leave food and drink which are lawful things, you should with greater reason leave what is unlawful, and if you are able to leave lawful matters in Ramadan, you are able to leave the unlawful ones.
