Ramadan Lectures- Morals/1424H- Flashes on Allah's Ayat- Lesson (15-32): The Prophets are our Good Examples to Follow

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings upon Sayyidina Muhammad, the honest and the trustworthy.

The Method of the Prophets:

There is a remarkable point in the following ayah; Almighty Allah says:

(This is the Guidance of Allah with which He guides whomsoever He will of His slaves.)

[Al-An'am: 88]

This point is about the stories of the Prophets, may Allah have peace and blessings upon them. When you read about the stories of the Prophets, may Allah have peace and blessings upon them, you may think that you are not concerned, because you are too small compared to the great Prophets. Let me tell you something dear brother, those of you who think like that must have forgotten that the Prophets are our exemplars. Therefore, we should follow them and benefit from their deeds. Following them does not mean that you are a Prophet, rather it means that as believers you are ordered by Almighty Allah to do what the Prophets were ordered to do.

There is a big difference between reading about the stories of the Prophets to increase your knowledge, and reading about them to follow their actions. You may say that they lived in a different era, and that they are Prophets. Well that is true, but Almighty Allah mentions them in the Noble Qur'an to us in order to make use of their experiences while they were calling their people to worship Allah. Almighty Allah wants us to make them our good examples and and to imitate their noble traits and the way they used to worship Allah:

(This is the Guidance of Allah with which He guides whomsoever He will of His slaves.)

[Al-An'am: 88]

I would like to elaborate on this point by referring to the case of a nurse. He may refuse to disinfect the medical tools before the surgery claiming that it is the job of the doctor. Actually, disinfecting the medical tools should be done by the lowest position an employee can occupy in the hospitals. Disinfecting the tools are common grounds of both the doctors and the nurses. Similarly is the Method of the Prophets; since we are concerned with it, we should follow their steps.

The evil intention of the infidel is worse than his deeds:

Listen to the following ayah, please:

(We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!")

[Al-Anbiyah': 69]

If the ayah were "O fire! Be you coolness," our Prophet Ibrahim, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, would die because of the coolness of the fire. Also, if it were "O fire! Be you coolness and safety," the Hellfire on the Day of the Judgment would be of no use. However, Almighty Allah says:

(We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!")

[Al-Anbiyah': 69]

The ayah is very precise; the fire is coolness and safety exclusively for our Prophet Ibrahim, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him:

(And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers.)

[Al-Anbiyah': 70]

When your enemy is planning to harm you, as his evil intention is worse than his deeds, you do not have to worry as long as you are with Allah. Whoever is with Allah, Allah will be with him. Listen what Allah says to Prophets Musa and his brother Harun, may Allah have peace and blessings upon them:

(Fear not, verily! I am with you both, hearing and seeing.)

[Ta-Ha: 46]

 Here is another ayah:

(With Him (Allah). So plot against me, all of you, and give me no respite. * "I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving (living) creature but He has grasp of its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth).)

[Hud: 55-56]

Also, Almighty Allah says in the following ayah:

(And We made Sulaiman (Solomon) to understand (the case), )

[Al-Anbiyah': 79]

It means that man was created with limited capabilities. Perhaps when man starts to have faith, his capabilities will be limited. However, if he is a devoted believer those limited capabilities will be extended. Also, he will be smart and outstanding because Allah blesses him:

(And We made Sulaiman (Solomon) to understand (the case), )

[Al-Anbiyah': 79]

Supplicate Allah and complain of your pain to Him:

By Allah, does not the following ayah make your flesh shiver ?

(And (remember) Ayub (Job), when he cried to his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.")

[Al-Anbiyah': 83]

What a supplication! This is a Noble Prophet supplicating Almighty Allah. Have you ever supplicated Allah? Have you ever complained of your worries and hardships to him?

(So We answered his call, and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him (that he had lost), and the like thereof along with them, as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all who worship Us.)

[Al-Anbiyah': 84]

You will never get lost as long as you trust Almighty Allah:

span class="spc"> Dear brother, I still have one last point. I will never fed up with repeating the following ayah:

(And (remember) Dhan-Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamites which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) are You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers."* So We answered his call, and delivered him from the distress.)

[Al-Anbiyah': 87-88]

Every one of us has his own troubles, worries and hardships. Also, every believer has an infidel who fights against him, a hypocrite who despises him, someone who envies him, a devil who tempts him and one’s own self that seduces him. So you are amongst five enemies. Nevertheless, no matter how serious your calamity is, you do not find yourself at night inside the stomach of a huge whale in a dark sea. If you are one hundred kg, you will be just a small bite to a whale which usually eats a meal of four tons. It ate an eighty-kilo- human being; Our Prophet Yunus, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, found himself inside the stomach of the whale unexpectedly. There were no cell phones, so he cried in the darkness- the darkness of the night, the darkness of the sea and the darkness of the whale’s stomach. He cried saying: La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) are You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]. I will the repeat the noble ayah:

(And (remember) Dhan-Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamites which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) are You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers."* So We answered his call, and delivered him from the distress. )

[Al-Anbiyah': 87-88]

Verily, this story is a law:

(And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).

[Al-Anbiyah': 88]

It is a universal law; for every time and place and for every country whether its regime is dictator or democratic. It is a law in prosperity or adversity, and at war or peace:

(And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).

[Al-Anbiyah': 87-88]

Dear brother, if it were the only ayah in the Noble Qur'an, it would be enough for everyone to know about the universal Law of Almighty Allah. Prophet Yunus, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, had that accident, but Almighty Allah finishes the story in the Noble Qur'an with a universal law. This law is a clear message to all believers that if the whole world fights against them, if risks surround them and if the cultural differences between them and the other party are very big, they should be optimistic because Almighty Allah says in the noble ayah:

(And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).

[Al-Anbiyah': 88]

Having faith is to put your trust in Allah and depend upon Him. Only then Almighty Allah will never let you get lost. Allah is the Most Appreciative; if you love Him, He loves you, if you serve His servants, He sends you someone to serve you and if you are good to His servants, He is Good to you. If you draw near to Him one step, He draws near to you many steps, and if you come to Him walking, He goes to you running.

Reconciliation with Allah makes you pleased:

Dear brother, you will wonder at Allah's answer to the call of the believer. Once you reconcile with Almighty Allah and say: "O Allah I turn to you with repentance," Almighty Allah says: "O My servant, I accept your repentance." Whenever you repent, Allah accepts your repentance:
Narrated by Al-Bukhari in a Hadith Qudsi that the Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, mentioned that Allah says in a Hadith Qudsi:

((Myself, Mankind and Jinn are in a great serious state. I create them, then they worship other gods that they make for themselves; I bless them with my bounties, then they thank someone else for what I sent them; My Mercy descends to them while their evil deeds ascend to Me; I endear them with my gifts even though I have no need for any of them while they alienate themselves from Me with their sins even though they are desperate for my help. Whoever returns to Me, I accept him no matter how far he is; and whoever turns away from Me, I approach him and call on him. Whoever leaves a sin for my sake, I reward him with many gifts and whoever seeks to please Me, I seek to please him. Whoever acknowledges My Will and Power in whatever he does, I make the iron bend for his sake. My dear people are those who are with Me.))

If the servant says while he is kneeling: O Allah my Lord, Allah answers him saying: O My servant I answer your call, If the servant says while he is prostrating: O Allah my Lord, Allah answers him saying: O My servant I answer your call, but if a sinner says: O Allah my Lord, Allah answers him saying: O My servant, I answer your call, I answer your call, I answer your call.

It was narrated in some of the Divine Traditions:

((O Dawud, had the heedless known how much I long to them and yearn for them to leave their sins, their limbs would have been turned into pieces out of their love for Me. That is my Will towards the heedless, so how would I be with those who draw near to Me?))

Pay attention to the following ayah, please:

("Go, both of you, to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience and behaved as an arrogant and as a tyrant).)

[Ta-Ha: 43]

Fir'aun is the most powerful tyrant who said, "I am your lord, most high", and said, "O chiefs! I know not that you have an ilah (a god) other than me." He is the one who killed the sons of Children of Israel, and let their females live:

("Go, both of you, to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience and behaved as an arrogant and as a tyrant).)

[Ta-Ha: 43]

("And speak to him mildly,)

[Ta-Ha: 44]

Almighty Allah ordered Musa and Harun to speak to Fir'aun, the powerful oppressor, mildly:

("And speak to him mildly, perhaps he may accept admonition or fear Allah.")

[Ta-Ha: 44]

A man was supplicating Almighty Allah saying: "O Allah my Lord, if that was Your Mercy to the one who said, "I am your lord, most high," then how will It be to whoever said, "Glorified and Most High are You, O Allah my Lord."? O Allah my Lord, if that was Your Mercy to the one who said, "O chiefs! I know not that you have an ilah (a god) other than me," then how will It be to whoever said, "There is no god but Allah Alone, and that He has no partners?" "

Listen to the rest of the above mentioned Hadith Qudsi:

((Whoever thanks Me, I grant him more blessings; whoever obeys Me, I raise him and endear him more. Whoever disobeys Me, I keep the doors of My Mercy open for him; if he returns to Me, I bestow him with My Love since I love those who repent and purify themselves for My Sake. If he does not repent, I still treat him by putting him in hardship to purify him. Whoever favors Me over sh3er, I favor them over sh3er. I reward every single good deed ten times over or seven hundred times over to countless times over. I count every single bad deed as one unless the person repents and ask for My Forgiveness in which case I forgive even that one. I take into account any little good deed and I forgive even major sins. My Mercy supersedes My Anger; My Tolerance supersedes My Blame; My Forgiveness supersedes My Punishment as I am more merciful with My slaves than a mother with her child.))
