In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

What is the ruling on celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day, New Years, Pakistan Independence Day, etc.?

First of all, feasts are related to religion as they are in Islam related to acts of worship and obedience, as Eid al-Fitr comes after the worship of fasting and Eid Al-Adha is related to pilgrimage and the first ten days of Dhi al-Hijja. It was mentioned in authenticated hadiths that Muslims have only two eids, namely Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It was also said that people who have many feasts can never prosper.

When the prophet (PBUH) entered Al-Medina he found its people celebrating two eids. He said:

[Verily Allah has given you two better days instead; the day of Fitr, and the day of Adha]

Moeover, many Muslims emintate western people in celebrating these days using candles, singing, and mixing between men and women.

Finally, I don't like a Muslim to celebrate these days nor do I consider celebrating them as a kind of disobedience especially that mother's day can make msh3er happy, on condition that we don't call them eids nor imitate western .people in celebrating them.

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of Creations
