Islamic Creed- Jinn and Witchcraft- Lesson (7-7): Nullifying the Impact of Witchcraft Through Shar'i Ways

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Shar'i ways are the only means to combat witchcraft:

Dear brother, we are tackling the seventh lesson of the series "Forbidding from dealing with Witches, Sorcerers and Jinn." The subject of our last lesson was about witches, and today we are moving to talk about a minor topic that is part of the major one which is "Nullifying the impact of witchcraft can be only achieved through Shar'i ways. In fact there are thousands of ways which are based on charlatanry, sorcery and superstitions, but there is only one way to nullify the impact of witchcraft which is the Shar'i way.

One of the well-known scholars said, "Whoever combats sh3er' oppression and was just the way Allah and His Messenger, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, ordered, he has never oppressed them. On the contrary, he is considered obedient to Allah and His Messenger, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, by supporting the oppressed, helping the grieved and relieving the distressed."

This means if someone is affected by witchcraft, or mass (possession) of jinn and he asks help from a scholar who knows Allah, knows the details of Allah's Method and knows the Shar'i ways, and he applies the Shar'i ways in nullifying the impact of witchcraft, then there is nothing wrong with this man. He does a favor to the one who is affected by witchcraft or mass of jinn. The Shar'i ways are free from associating partners with Allah. The first and ultimate fact is that none can hurt you on earth unless Allah wills:

"But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's Leave."

[Al-Baqarah: 102]

Thus, your connection should be with Allah Alone concerning witchcraft and mass of jinn

Man is punished with mass because of his oblivion:

I received an email from a man saying that his wife was behaving in an unacceptable and abnormal way, and that he took her to many doctors and most of them said that she was suffering from mass of jinn. He said that her behavior, her refusal to sleep with him and her violence were all eccentric. Therefore, the psychiatrists concluded that she was affected by mass of jinn. He treated her following some of Sahri'ah instructions. He said, "It is incredible how she got back to her normal state; she regained her tenderness, compassion, rationality and mental order.

Sometimes, according to a profound Divine wisdom, Allah the All-Just punishes someone with mass of jinn because of his oblivion, religious default, indulgence in a sin secretly or the like. The mass (possession) of Shaitan or jinn (Shayatin are the disbelievers among jinn) or the impact of witchcraft can only be nullified by legitimate Shar'i ways.

Ayat Al-Kursi is the best weapon to defeat jinn:

The first and last Shar'i way is seeking refuge with Allah the Almighty:

"And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaitan (Satan) then seek refuge with Allah. Verily, those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious), when an evil thought comes to them from Shaitan (Satan), they remember (Allah)"

[Al-A'raf: 200-201]

If someone is affected by mass (possession) of Shaitan or jinn, he should remember Allah or seek refuge with Him; the main thing is that the end result does not change. If we want to go into details concerning seeking refuge with Allah, one can reauthor Al-Mu'awadhatein (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas), Ayat Al-Kursi, praying and making Du'a (suplicating Allah). All these things can strengthen one's faith and prevent him from committing sins. Some scholars say that the best weapon used to defeat jinn is reciting Ayat Al-Kusri. Innumerous people tried it with whoever was affected by mass (possession) of jinn, and found how effective it was in keeping Shayatin away from man's nafs (ownself), and in keeping jinn away from whoever suffered from epilepsy (the one caused by mass).

Many Muslims deny Shaitan although it is confirmed in the Quran:

Dear brother, if you reauthor Ayat Al-Kursi before whoever is affected by mass (possession) of Shayatin, jinn, witchcraft or the assistants of Shayatin (human beings), you will help nullify their impact There are human beings who behave in a devilish way by doing harm. They could be your colleagues, your neighbors or your relatives. Those kind of people seek doing harm to you without being hurt, so the harm they do to you is also considered mass; the mass of mankind Shayatin. Let me be frank with you; the concept of Shaitan is denied by most people and even by most Muslims. They admit that there is someone who conspires against you, makes you hate your wife, causes hostility between your brother and you, pushes you to do evil, makes you get angry or makes you outrageous like a wild beast. Thus, this person is a Shaitan:

"Verily, he is to you an open enemy."

[Al-Baqarah: 168]

By Allah, dear brother, whenever I see someone who committed theft, I say to myself, "this is Shaitan's handiwork who led him to steal. Theft turned into killing and killing caused him to be hanged." This is Shaitan's handiwork. It seems that most cases of the arbitrary divorces are Shaitan's handiwork. Also, the financial collapse of firms is Shaitan's handiwork; a stubborn man wants to take what is not his from his business partner, and he uses his position against him, so the firm collapses because the partner wants to gain a great benefit from that. Hence, do not think that Shaitan is an easy case that one can read about in books. The Shaitan can exist with every man, at every moment and in every house. If someone enters his house and does not say Assalamu Alaikum, Shaitan says to his fellow Shayatin, 'You've got the house to dwell in', and if someone wants to eat and does not say in the Name of Allah, Shaitan says to his fellow Shyatin, 'You've got the dinner'. Moreover, if someone enters his house and does not say Assalamu Alaikum, and if he wants to eat and does not say in the Name of Allah, Shaitan says to his fellow Shyatin, 'You've got the house and dinner'.
You may find a house where there is aggrevation ; the wife is constantly criticizing her husband, and so is the husband. They badmouth each other, exchange accusations before the children and have feelings of wrangle and grudge towards each other. The Shaitan is in such a house, because it looks like a grave; no one in the house prays, reauthors Quran, glorifies Allah or seeks His Forgiveness. If you enter your house and say Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatul Allah wa Barakatoh (Peace, Mercy and Blessings of Allah be upon you), the Shaitan will turn away from it. I am sorry, but I have to be honest with you, so I say time and time again: the concept of Shaitan is unacceptable for most Muslims although it is confirmed in the Noble Quran:

"Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is to man a plain enemy."

[Al-Isra': 53]

Shaitan is responsible for destroying relations between people:

It has become obvious to me that the husband who swears to divorce his wife if she visits her sister, she will be divorced if she breaks his oath. Glory be to Allah! This wife will not find rest untilshe visits her sister, thus sacrificing her husband and the good relation with him. There are hundreds and even thousands of cases like this one; a husband swears an oath of divorce, but the wife, because the Shaitan is with her, can never feel relieved until she breaks his oath.

In some cases you find that the father likes to advise his children, but since there are quarrels between him and his wife the mother orders her children not to listen to the their father's advice. For instance, the father calls his children to pray, but the mother says, "Leave them alone. They are tired." Also, if he asks them to accompany him to the Masjid, the mother refuses. This mother looks like Shaitan. In other cases, the husband is the one who behaves like a Shaitan. He says, "My wife's manners are indecent, because there is a Shaitan inside her." Shaitan knows very well how to ruin the relations between spouses, between partners or between neighbors; he makes them say harsh words to one another, comment on one another's behavior cruelly or frown at one another.

You may meet someone who is kind, has a smiley face and is nice to other people, but the minute he enters his house he turns into a monster. What happens to him? This is your wife and those are your children, who can support them other than you? To whom should your smile be? Of course to your wife. You can see how the husband treats the female employees at his work kindly, respectfully, affectionately, politely and modestly. He chooses the kindest words when he talks to them, but he uses the harshest words with his wife.

Shaitan sometimes prevents you from being grateful to Allah; you have a clean house, a new meal when you get hungry and decent children. Yet, all what you do is finish your food and keep silent. You can say to your wife words such as, "Assalamu Alaikum, may Allah grant you good health, may Allah reward you, Allah has honored me when He decreed you to be my wife and so on." What you hear is words as hard as rocks.

By Allah, dear brother, I am deeply hurt when I listen to the complaints of our brother on the phone, and when I read them in the letters they send to me saying that the houses of Muslims are unbearable hell. They say it is Allah's Decree, but this is not true. What is going on is the result of committing mistakes in houses, not Allah's Decree. Can't the husband be elegant, descent, kind, tolerant, compassionate and merciful? Can't you o wife, be rational? Earning money is not easy; there are many difficulties, pressure and laws which your husband should not violate. Yet, the wife wants all her needs to be satisfied without even making excuses for her husband. Sometimes putting pressure on the husband drives him mad. There could be Shaitan either with the husband or with the wife, and he could be with both of them. The houses of Muslims are an intolerable hell; there is no compassion, no affection, no respect to the father, no respect to the mother nor care to the children.

The main goal of Shaitan is to cause disputes between people:

I repeat once again that the concept of Shaitan is blurred in the mind of most Muslims. Sometimes you find someone who likes to harm other people without gaining benefit from doing so. In some cases major disasters occur because of a word uttered, or because of a minor mistake committed. Therefore, say 'I seek refuge with Allah from Shaitan, the accursed one' when you enter your house, and say, 'O Allah! I seek refuge in You from leaving or being led astray, or against slipping or being caused to slip; or doing injustice or being done injustice to; or doing wrong or having wrong done to me' when you get out of it. There are Du'a you make when you get in your house and when you get out of it. You should be aware of the fact that the main goal of Shaitan is causing disputes between spouses, between brother and sisters, between partners or between neighbors. One of the main goals of Shaitan is achieved when the society is shattered. As you can see dear brother, by Allah Muslims' societies are disrupt. If you read Ayat Al-Kursi properly and devotedly, the Shaitan will keep away from you.

Glory be to You, O Lord! Indeed, there is no infallible man. One of the scholars sees that the one who has mass of jinni should be severely beaten, so that the jinni gets out of his body. He says that this man is not affected by beating since it is meant to be for the jinni. Thus, concerning this point, another scholar asked, "Does he have the proof that the severe beating gets the jinni out? The proof exists neither in the Quran nor in Sunnah." The scholar beats the one who has mass to the extent that he is about to die claiming that he is treating him. Allah mentions the medicine; seeking refuge with Allah, and He does not mention beating. I hear many stories about people who go to those who are assumed to treat them form mass, and they beat them severely. Sometimes beating can be greater than they have strength to bear. The scholar said, "Such a treatment does not exist."

The Noble Ayat which can help the affected by mass or witchcraft:

1- Ayat Al-Kursi:

It is recommended to reauthor Ayat Al-Kursi to whoever is affected by mass of jinn, witchcraft of a witch or mass of mankind Shayatin. Actually the mass of mankind Shayatin is worse than that of jinn, because the former is more dangerous. An innocent young man may spend the evening with his friends, so they put drugs in his cup of tea. As a result, he spends whatever he owns to buy drugs. Later on, he starts to borrow money, and then he steals. After a period of time, he allows his friend to commit adultery with his sister in order to have money for the drugs. By Allah, dear brother I know many stories about drugs that make the children grey-headed. Friends as such are Shayatin, so man should always be at the highest level of awareness. Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: The Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, said:

((Keep only a believer for a companion and let only a pious eat your food.))

[Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Habban and Al-Hakem, from Abi Sa'id]

 I repeat once again:

((Keep only a believer for a companion and let only a pious eat your food.))

[Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Habban and Al-Hakem, from Abi Sa'id]

Do not visit someone who you do not know well, or invite someone who you do not know to your house.

2- Al-Fatihah and Al-Mu'awadhatan:

Now we come to Al-Fatihah. Reported Imam Al-Bukhari, may Allah be pleased with him, (when we say this phrase after mentioning a narrator, we mean to make Du'a for him, but if we say it after mentioning the name of a noble Companion, then we mean that this is a fact, because Allah the Almighty says:

"Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they gave their Bai'a (pledge) to you (O Muhammad PBUH) under the tree,"

[Al-Fath:18]

There is a big difference between saying this phrase to mean Du'a and to confirm a fact. Narrated Abu Sa'id bin Al-Mu'alla:

((While I was praying in the Mosque, Allah's Messenger, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, called me but I did not respond to him. Later I said, "O Allah's Messenger, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him! I was praying." He said, "Didn't Allah say, "O you who believe! Answer Allah (by obeying Him) and (His) Messenger when he, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, calls you to that which will give you life" (8. 24). He then said to me, "I will teach you a Surah which is the greatest Surah in the Qur'an, before you leave the Mosque." Then he got hold of my hand, and when he intended to leave (the Mosque), I said to him, "Didn't you say to me, 'I will teach you a Surah which is the greatest Surah in the Qur'an?' He said, "Al-Hamdu-Li l-lah Rabbi-l-'alamin (i.e. 'All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists),' which is Al-Sab'a Al-Mathani (i.e. seven repeatedly reauthord Verses) and the Grand Qur'an which has been given to me."))

[Al-Bukhari, from Abu Sa'id bin Al-Mu'alla]

I am going to mention another Hadith about the virtue of Al-Fatihah, and which is also reported in Sahihain: Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him:

((Some of the companions of the Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs, and that tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion). They said, (to the companions of the Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, "Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya?" The Prophet's companions said, "You refuse to entertain us, so we will not treat (your chief) unless you pledge to give us an offering." So they agreed to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them (the Prophet's companions) started reciting 'All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)' (Surat Al-Fatihah), and gathering his saliva and spitting it (at the snake-bite). The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them, but they said, "We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, (whether it is lawful When they asked him, he, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, smiled and said, "How do you know that Surat Al-Fatihah is a Ruqya? Then he said: You have done well. Take it (flock of sheep) and allot a share for me."))

[Agreed upon, from Abi Sa'id Al-Khudri]

Taking wages for reciting Quran is Haram if it is not for doing Ruqya:

Scholars deduced from the above mentioned Hadith that it is lawful to take wages for doing Ruqya. There is another Hadith which is narrated by Ibn Abbas:

((Some of the companions of the Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, passed by some people staying at a place where there was water, and one of those people had been stung by a scorpion. A man from those staying near the water, came and said to the companions of the Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, "Is there anyone among you who can do Ruqya as near the water there is a person who has been stung by a scorpion." So one of the Prophet's companions went to him and reauthord Surat Al-Fatihah for a sheep as his fees. The patient got cured and the man brought the sheep to his companions who disliked that and said, "You have taken wages for reciting Allah's Book." When they arrived at Medina, they said, ''O Allah's Messenger, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, (this person) has taken wages for reciting Allah's Book" On that Allah's Messenger, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, said, "You are most entitled to take wages for doing a Ruqya with Allah's Book."))

[Al-Bukhari, from Ibn Abbas]

Hence, you can take wages only for doing Ruqya. The noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, know that it is Haram to take wages for reciting Quran unless it is taken for doing Ruqya. They said to the Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, "this person has taken wages for reciting Allah's Book", because they know the Ayah in which Almighty Allah says:

"And sell not My Verses for a miserable price."

[Al-Ma'idah': 44]

Beware, I am addressing whoever makes reciting the Noble Quran a craft by which he meets people's needs in celebrations. Make sure that your earning is lawful.

3- The concluding Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah:

Dear brother, let me mention to you a third Hadith. Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, reported:

((While Jibril (Gabriel) was sitting with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, he heard a sound above him. He lifted his head, and said: "This is a gate which has been opened in heaven today. It was never opened before." Then an angel descended through it, he said: "This is an angel who has come down to earth. He never came down before." He sent greetings and said: "Rejoice with two lights given to you. Such lights were not given to any Prophet before you. These (lights) are: Fatihah-til-Kitab (Surat Al-Fatihah), and the concluding Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah. You will never reauthor a word from them without being given the blessings they contain."))

[Muslim, from Ibn Abbas]

Al-Mu'awadhatan, Ayat Al-Kursi, Al-Fatihah and the concluding Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah nullify the impact of witchcraft, mass and the plot of mankind Shayatin, who are among us.

The virtues of Surat Al-Fatihah:

Imam Ahmad narrated from Ibn Jabir:

((I went to the Messenger of Allah after he had poured water (for purification) and said, 'Peace be unto you, O Messenger of Allah!' He did not answer me. So I said again, 'Peace be unto you, O Messenger of Allah!' Again, he did not answer me, so I said again, 'Peace be unto you, O Messenger of Allah!' Still he did not answer me. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, went while I was following him, until he arrived at his residence. I went to the Masjid and sat there sad and depressed. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, came out after he performed his purification and said, "Peace and Allah's mercy be unto you, peace and Allah's mercy be unto you, peace and Allah's mercy be unto you." He then said, "O Abdullah bin Jabir! Should I inform you of the best Surah in the Qur'an" I said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah!' He said, "Read, 'All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists),' until you finish it.''))

[Ahmad, from Ibn Jabir]

We are still talking about the virtues of Surat Al-Fatihah. Narrated At-Tirmidhi from Abi Hurairah:

(("…Would you like me to teach you a Surah the likes of which is not to be found in the Tawrah, Injil, Zabur or the [rest of the] Quran?" He said, 'Yes O Messenger of Allah.' The Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, said, "I hope that I will not leave this door until you know it." Ubayy said, 'Then he took hold of my hand and talked to me while I slowed down fearing that we may reach the door before he finished talking. When we did reach it I asked him, 'What is the Surah you promised me, O Messenger of Allah?' He, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, said, "What is the Surah you reauthor in prayer?" So I reauthord the Mother of the Quran upon which he said, "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, Allah has not revealed the likes of it in the Tawrah, Injil, Zabur or the [rest of the] Quran. It is the Seven Oft-Repeated verses." ))

[At-Tirmidhi, from Abi Hurairah]

Abstaining from showing off and pride nullify envy:

Dear brother, if you follow the legimitate Shar'i ways in nullifying the impact of witchcraft, mass, Shayatin of mankind by seeking refuge with Allah, you will be the strongest, the most knowledgeable and the richest man. Glory be to You O Allah! There are phrases which people repeat frequently in occasions that make them lose their significance and value. For example, if someone gets angry with someone else what does he say? You hear him saying, "I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah". Was Shahadah ordained to be uttered when someone gets angry? You may ask an atheist, "How are you?" to which he replies, "Praise be to Allah", since he is atheist, who is being praised then? There are phrases which lose their essence because Muslims repeat them insignificantly. You should mean the words you say; I seek refuge with Allah from Shaitan, the accursed one, and say, "Say: "I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of the daybreak,* "From the evil of what He has created;*"And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away).* "And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the knots,*"And from the evil of the envier when he envies." (113. 1-5). The Prophet, may Allah have peace and blessings upon him, said:

((The evil eye will put a man into his grave and a camel into the cooking pot.))

If man boasts about the blessings Almighty Allah has granted him, saying, "My income is so and so, my profits are so and so, I went to such a place" and so on, and he intends by that to break sh3er' hearts and show his superiority to Allah's servants, he may be envied by sh3er. He is oblivious to the evil eye when he boasts about himself, shows off, thinks himself superior to sh3er and stirs other's envy. As a result, a heedless person of the surroundings envies him, and he is affected by the impact of the evil eye. The danger of the evil eye cannot be prevented by phrases such as, "May Allah blind the evil eye", absolutely not. On the contrary, envy is prevented by modesty and refraining from showing off, boasting about your privileges and by not being arrogant. Hence, putting a paper written in it "The impact of the evil eye never lasts" is useless.

Dear brother, I am just giving you a piece of advice and ask Allah to keep us safe from jinn, from the superstitions of superstitious, from the sorcery of the sorcerers, from the heedlessness of the heedless and from whatever corruption and arrogance prevail on earth. I consider you messengers to your surroundings. Thus, whoever of you hears about cases like the ones I have mentioned earlier, should have a firm and courageous stand towards them and confirm that none on earth can do harm to anyone except by Allah's Leave. He also, should clarify to them that one can prevent people from doing harm to him by seeking refuge with Allah, particularly through reciting Surat Al-Fatihah, Al-Mu'awadhatein, Ayat Al-Kursi and the concluding Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah.
