Islamic Creed- Facts of Faith and Ideoloy- Lesson (09-30): Why does Man get scared-3- Fear has Levels
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of Creations, and Peace and blessings be upon our prophet Muhammad, the faithful and the honest.
Oh, Allah, we know nothing but what You teach us. You are the All- Knower, the Wise. Oh Allah, teach us what is good for us, and benefit us from what You taught us, and increase our knowledge. Show us the righteous things as righteous and help us to do them, and show us the bad things as bad and help us to keep away from them.
O Allah our Lord, lead us out from the depths of darkness and illusion, unto the lights of erudition and knowledge, and from the muddy shallows of lusts unto the heavens of Your Vicinity.

Being heedless and turning away from Allah lead to wronging His Creations:

Dear brothers, this is lesson number 8 of the series Facts of Faith and Inimitability, and we are still tackling the topic fear based on the quote, "The head of all wisdom is to fear Allah". However, fear has many levels in the sense that fearing Allah's Torment is a level that is different from fearing of being veiled from Allah, which is a more exalted level of fear. On the other hand, when man turns away from Allah (as a result of not fearing Him), he will wrong Allah's creations.

If man's detachment from Allah is just a state of mind which has nothing to do with his behavior, then this might be accepted, but turning away from Allah, not fearing Him and being naturally a demandable human being will lead man to take what does not belong to him, to wrong people, to look down on them, to despoil their money and to assault their honor. Accordingly, the only guarantee which is the greatest deterrent from wronging others is to fear Allah.

This is a fact, because if people are disciplined, but they do not fear Allah the Almighty, their discipline is formal only and it is a commitment to rules in its least levels. Thus, whoever is formally disciplined can be seduced by money, gold or oppression, and so he will collapse, he will deviate from uprightness, and he will respond to the one who seduces him or oppresses him.

Man should use his brain, which is one of Allah's greatest Signs, properly:

Dear brothers, what should the believer feel while he is following the path towards Allah the Almighty? First of all Allah says:

﴾And indeed We have honoured the Children of Adam, and We have carried them on land and sea, and have provided them with At-Taiyibat (lawful good things), and have preferred them above many of those whom We have created with a marked preference.﴿

[Al-Isra', 70]

Allah the Great Creator has honored you (as a human being) since He has created you of the best stature (mould), has made you a creature who can walk on two legs, has given you two free arms to use and has granted you reasoning. In the brain there are 140 billion gray cells whose functions are still unknown, and in the cerebral cortex there are 40 billion cells where unimaginable processes take place. The memory center is not bigger than a grain of lentil, yet it can save 60 billion images in man's lifetime. The centers of reasoning, judging, deducing, imagining and memorizing in the brain make it a sign that indicates the Greatness of Allah, so how does man dare to use this brain to hurt people? Allah the Almighty says:

﴾We will catch him by the forelock* A lying, sinful forelock!﴿

[Al-Alaq, 15-16]

The judging center is located in the forehead, and it is responsible for making decisions, so how do you dare to use that miraculous brain to hurt people? The chemical weapons, biological weapons, cluster bombs, firebombs, fission bombs, smart bombs, laser bombs and atomic bombs are destructive weapons, and man has made them using his brain in order to kill people. Countries all over the third world are killed just like the massive death of sheep afflicted by the plague, given the killer does not know why he kills, nor does his victim know why he is killed.

The status of the one, who wronged people, on the Day of Resurrection:

There is an important indication in the following Ayah:

﴾ And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. For what sin she was killed?﴿

[At-Takwir, 8-9]

When the truth will be unfolded on the Day of Resurrection, man will stand before His Lord and will be asked about those he wronged and hurt. Allah has granted man the grace of existence, provision and guidance. Nevertheless, he does great harm to the creations of Allah, Exalted and Sublime be He. Do you not witness the massive killing around the world? Do you not see the random massacres? Do you not hear about the despoliation of the treasures of the third world? Do you not observe the humiliation against weak nations? What will the powerful people and decision makers say on the Day of Resurrection (when they will be reckoned for all their evil deeds)? Allah says:

﴾ Consider not that Allah is unaware of that which the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc.) do, but He gives them respite up to a Day when the eyes will stare in horror. ﴿

[Ibrahim, 42]

When man reads the following Ayah, he will realize that he has been honored:

﴾And indeed We have honoured the Children of Adam, and We have carried them on land and sea, and have provided them with At-Taiyibat (lawful good things), and have preferred them above many of those whom We have created with a marked preference.﴿

[Al-Isra', 70]

What will man's reaction be, after he artfully hurt people and Allah's creations, when he stands before the One who has created him, provided him with sustenance, honored him, exalted him, made him of the best stature (mould) and subjugated all that in the heavens and the earth for him? It was narrated in Hadith which is not fully Sahih:

((Verily, man will face shame in the Day of Judgment to such an extent that he will implore to God to send him to Hell as a better alternative, although he is aware of the severity of the infernal chastisement.))

Every man should fear wronging people after receiving the Divine Kindness:

By Allah dear brothers, I repeatedly say that there is a third world war declared against Muslims. If you are not part of the dirty conspiracy which aims at impoverishing, misguiding, corrupting, humiliating and destroying Muslims, you live at ease just like a king, and you save yourself from crimes for which their doers shall be severely reckoned. Herein lies Fear; it is the fear of returning Allah's Generosity by wronging His Creations. Allah says:

﴾ Is there any reward for good other than good?﴿

[Ar-Rahman, 60]

Having man's bad and good deeds written is a sort of honoring him:

Dear brothers, one of the manifestations of the Divine Honoring of man is the following:

﴾ But verily, over you (are appointed angels in charge of mankind) to watch you* Kiraman (honourable) Katibin writing down (your deeds),﴿

[Al-Infitar, 10-11]

There is an angel for each one of us who writes down all our good and bad deeds. Are you not ashamed of using Allah's Graces in disobeying Him? Allah's Graces are priceless, for Allah has given you reasoning, hearing, sight, tongue, memory, perfect body, a wife and children, so what will you say to Allah when you will be asked about cheating Muslims, and when you add cancerous substances to food products to enhance their color and to sell them at higher prices? You earn few thousands unlawfully at the expense of doing harm to Muslims' health causing them intractable disease. In such a case what will your stance be on the Day of Resurrection?

By Allah dear brothers, I am telling you the following from heart to heart: Before you do anything wrong, and before you commit any violation in selling and buying, such as deceiving Muslims and stealing their money, think about the time when you will stand before Allah the Almighty (on the Day of Resurrection).

A brother who owns candy product factory said to me that the poor people give their children 10 Liras to buy something to eat from shops nearby their school, but the father does not know that with such little amount of money their children can only cheap products which are made from expired ingredients, so they are harmful to their health. Most of food factories do that, for they buy expired ingredients which cannot be discovered, and they enhance their taste and appearance and sell them 30 % cheaper than other unaffordable products. What is the reaction of such factories' owners before Allah on the Day of Resurrection after they collected their wealth at the expense of Muslims' health?

Whoever longs for something should think of its consequences:

Dear brothers, whenever you want to do something think of the consequences.
Allah says:

﴾ And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. For what sin she was killed?﴿

[At-Takwir, 8-9]

By Allah dear brothers, I consider oppressors the most foolish people on earth, because they overlook Allah's Orders and they forget that the Lord who will reckon them and hold them responsible for their deeds. On that Day, they will beg Allah to send them to Hellfire because of the humiliating situation they will be in while they are reckoned. Thus, the more you fear Allah in the worldly life, the more secured you will be on the Day of Resurrection, whereas the more indifferent you are to Allah's Punishment in the worldly life, the more scared you will be on the Day of Resurrection. Allah says:

﴾ And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised.﴿

[Adh-Dhariyat, 22]

﴾ Allah is He Who created you, then provided food for you﴿

[Ar-Rum, 40]

 Your provision is guaranteed.

((O My salve! I have (ordained) for you an obligation; and you have provision (to receive) from Me. Even if you disobey Me concerning My Obligation (that I have ordained for you), I do not deprive you of your provision (that you receive from Me). By My Might and Majesty! If you are not contented with that which I allot for you, I shall set on you this present world, in which you shall be made to run as wild animals run in the wilderness. Then, you shall get from it (the present world) nothing except that which I have already decreed for you; and I shall not care; and you shall (then) be dispraised by Me…))

[Mentioned in the Relic]

Obeying Allah is obligatory since Allah has granted man uncountable graces:

Dear brothers, because Allah has honored us, provided us and protected us and subjected all that is in the heavens ad all that is in the earth, we should obey Him:

﴾ And has subjected to you all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth; ﴿

[Al-Jathiyah, 59]

Also, since Allah the Almighty has bestowed all that upon that, we should obey Him:

You disobey the Lord, but you claim to love Him!
Such is indeed an awful claim!
If your love were true, you would obey Him.
Verily, he who loves someone does obey him.

Dear brothers, we should believe in the truth and Allah is the Truth, and you should believe that Allah has created the heavens and the earth for a purpose. Allah says:

﴾ "Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose) ﴿

[Al-Mu'minun, 115]

When a rich person buys a plane for 300 million, which can carry 1000 passengers, and in which there are bedroom, living room, dining room, guest room and bathrooms, he actually does not care about poor people, since he spends millions while people are starving to death in Africa and Somalia. Allah says:

﴾ Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (you indulged in, in this world)! ﴿

[At-Takaathur, 8]

Purposelessness contradicts the existence of Allah the Almighty:

  Dear brothers:

﴾ "Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose) ﴿

[Al-Mu'minun, 115]

Purposelessness contradicts the existence of Allah. Is it possible that life ends just like that though there are the rich and the poor, the healthy and the sick, those who live long and those who die at an early age, the handsome and the ugly and the strong and the weak in it? Does that befit the Perfection of Allah? Absolutely not!! What befits Allah's Perfection is having a Day when all accounts will be settled:

﴾ It is He Who begins the creation and then will repeat it﴿

[Yunus, 4]

﴾ in order that each person may be recompensed what he has earned﴿

[Al-Jathiyah, 22]

﴾ So, by your Lord (O Muhammad PBUH), We shall certainly call all of them to account* For all that they used to do.﴿

[Al-Hijr, 92-93]

﴾ Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing)* Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day* Far from easy for the disbelievers.﴿

[Al-Muddathir, 8-10]

﴾ "Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose)﴿

[Al-Mu'minun, 115]

Absolute evil and purposelessness do not exist in the universe:

The second Ayah goes as follows:

﴾ And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play* We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. ﴿

[Ad-Dukhan, 38-39]

Purposelessness and absolute evil have no place in the universe, but there is partial evil which is used to serve the absolute goodness. The proof is in the following Ayah:

﴾ Then let man look at his food, ﴿

[Abasa, 24]

How can man make use of a cow if it is wild and not domestic? Allah the Almighty says:

﴾ And We have subdued them unto them ﴿

[Ya-Sin, 72]

Allah subjugated huge animals to man (like the cow and the camel), while a little scorpion scares man to death. The snake, for example, is not subjugated and the serpent is not subjugated, either. On the other hand, the camel and the cow are subjugated, and so are all other livestock. Who has subjugated them to man? Allah has. A disease called "cow madness" afflicted cows year ago, and in Britain 30 million cows whose cost is 33 billion pounds were burnt, because they went mad. Therefore, having the cow subjugated is a grace that we will be held responsible for (on the Day of Resurrection) since we cause its madness.

Man should never mess up with the Creation of Allah the Almighty:

In fact, the cow's madness is the outcome of man's madness, because Allah the Almighty has created cows as herbivores which feed on plants, but man went against nature and fed them powdered carrion which made them mad. This is the meaning of the following Ayah:

﴾ and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah. ﴿

[An-Nisa', 119]

Dairy products are a great Divine Grace to mankind, and whenever the prophet PBUH drank milk he used to say, "O Allah, bestow more of this grace upon us." Dairy products like yogurt, cheese, butter and cream are produced come from the milk of the cow which seems to be a factory unto itself. Thus, Allah says:

﴾Then let man look at his food* That We pour forth water in abundance* And We split the earth in clefts* And We cause therein the grain to grow* And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle)* And olives and date-palms* And gardens, dense with many trees* And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.)* (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. ﴿

[Abasa, 24-32]

The irrefutable signs which indicate the Greatness of Allah are uncountable:

1- The grace of reasoning:

Dear brothers, if man is healthy, his heartbeat rate is regular and his blood pressure is normal, yet the minute he has a problem in his mind, his own family will send him to a centre of mental health even though he is the one who bought them the house they live in. Therefore, having a sound mind is a priceless grace:

﴾ And if it had been Our Will, We could have transformed them (into animals or lifeless objects) in their places. Then they should have been unable to go forward (move about) nor they could have turned back. [As it happened with the Jews see Verse 7:166 The Qur'an]. ﴿

[Ya-Sin, 67]

A brother told me that his father once went blank, and he was unable to find his way to the house after he went out of his factory, but since it was partial amnesia, he remembered his son's house and came to him. When man is afflicted with dementia, he will lose his knowledge, science and expertise. Hence, having a sound mind is a priceless grace that we all have.

2- The immunity system:

The immunity system we have Divinely been granted is like an army in the full meaning of the word; it has the investigating squad, the fighting squad, the medication manufacturing squad and the service squad. Allah says:

﴾ Verily, We created man of the best stature (mould), ﴿

[At-Tin, 4]

3- The eyes and the ears:

By Allah dear brothers and I am not exaggerating, you can reach Allah, and you are able to know aspects of Allah's Perfection through pondering over your body only. You have eyes and ears (which are ones of Allah's Graces). You have two eyes so that you can see the three dimensions of things, while looking at things with one eye only, will give man flat image. We have two ears so that we know the direction where the sound comes from. Man's body is amazingly symmetrical.

4- The brain, the spinal cord and the heart:

The most crucial organ in man's body is the brain, so where is it located? It is located in a box of bone (the skull). Moreover there is a fluid between the brain and the skull and this fluid works as a shock absorbent, and the brain is wrapped with three tissues. When a little kid falls down on the ground, the shock will be distributed on the entire surface of the brain because of the fluid, which protects the brain from that shock.
The spinal cord is the second important organ in man's body, so where is it located? It is located in the spinal column. As for the heart, it is the third noble organ in the body, and where is it located? It is located inside the chest. The blood red cells factories are very important as well, and where are they located? They are located in the marrow of the bones. The womb is also protected by the pelvic bone. The eye is protected by the sockets and if the eyes were located on the forehead, I think the majority of people would become blind, but the eyes are Divinely protected by the sockets.

5- The joints:

Without inward joints man would eat like a cat right from the plate using his tongue, and there would be no other solution, because canceling the function of the joints would prevent man from using his fingers and wrist. By Allah we are able to get acquainted with Allah and totally submit to Him in our Salah just by pondering over our bodies. Allah says:

﴾ And also in your ownselves. Will you not then see? ﴿

[Adh-Dhariyat, 59]

6- The nose:

Why the nose is always moist? It is moist due to the tears which come from the tear duct, and the main function of the latter is to flow the tears through ducts inside the nose. This tear duct is very fine, and if it were blocked, man would spend the rest of his life wiping the excessive amounts of tears away from his cheeks till they get inflamed. Thus, having unblocked tear duct is a great grace which is overlooked by man. Allah says:

﴾ And also in your ownselves. Will you not then see? ﴿

[Adh-Dhariyat, 59]

7-Water:

  Regarding water Allah says:

﴾ And We have made from water every living thing.﴿

[Al-Anbiya', 30]

Water is tasteless and odorless, but if it were pink or blue, everything in our life would be dyed in pink or blue. Besides being tasteless and odorless, the water evaporates at 14 degrees centigrade which is a great grace, because if we assume that water evaporates at 100 degrees, our laundry will never get dry. Assumptions show us how things might become.

﴾ And We have made from water every living thing.﴿

[Al-Anbiya', 30]

8- The Earth's spin:

In a previous lecture I said that if the earth rotates on a horizontal axis, we would have eternal night and eternal day, and the temperatures in the eternal day would reach 350 degrees whereas the temperatures in the eternal night would drop to the absolute zero which equals minus 270 degrees. This temperature puts an end to the life as we know it. If the earth rotated on a vertical axis, we would not have day or night, we would not have seasons either. Who designed the earth to rotate on a tilted axis? It is the Wisdom of the Wise, the Knowledge of the All-Knowing and the Omnipotence of the Omnipotent (i.e. Allah) has desinged it like that.

﴾ It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit.﴿

[Ya-Sin, 40]

A comparison between man's work and Allah's Work:

Compare between a woman of flesh and blood who can talk, think and walk and the mannequins in malls:

﴾ This is the creation of Allah. So show Me that which those (whom you worship), besides Him have created. ﴿

[Luqman, 11]

Compare between a natural rose with its amazing fragrance and a plastic rose:

﴾ This is the creation of Allah.﴿

Compare between the human kidney which works silently and the artificial kidney (dialysis machine) which is as big as a table and man should be linked to it for 8 hours three times a week, given each time will cost him thousands of Liras.

Man will be called to account for his deeds on the Day of Resurrection:

Dear brothers, the amazing signs which indicate the Greatness of Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth are indefinite. The great news about which they are in disagreement is either the Day of Resurrection or death. In the funeral, the soul of the deceased will flutter above the casket and will say, "O my folks, O my sons, do not allow the worldly life to play with you as it did with me. I collected money from lawful and unlawful ways, and I spent it in lawful and unlawful purposes. Thus, you will enjoy what I collected while I will be reckoned for them." Allah the Almighty says:

﴾ Say (O Muhammad PBUH to the disbelievers): "My Lord pays attention to you only because of your invocation to Him. But now you have indeed denied (Him). So the torment will be yours for ever (inseparable permanent punishment)."﴿

[Al-Furqan, 77]

I would like each one of you in this lecture to fear Allah, to fear the day when you will stand before Allah and to fear the day when you will be reckoned for all your deeds:

﴾ So, by your Lord (O Muhammad PBUH), We shall certainly call all of them to account* For all that they used to do.﴿

[Al-Hijr, 92-93]

Whoever fears Allah in worldly life shall be secured on the Day of Resurrection:

As I said earlier, there are levels of fear, for one might fear Allah's Torment, while another might have more transcendental sort of fear like the fear of being disconnected from Allah. There is always goodness in the believer, and thus he has the fear of being disconnected from Allah the Almighty. The more you fear Allah the better things you will get, because whoever fears Allah in the worldly life shall be granted security on the Day of Resurrection:

﴾ It was said (to him when the disbelievers killed him): "Enter Paradise." He said: "Would that my people knew!* "That my Lord (Allah) has forgiven me, and made me of the honoured ones!"﴿

[Ya-Sin, 26-27]

 This is the real success:

﴾ And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. ﴿

[Aal-'Imran, 185]

Scientific inimitability proves that the Creator is He Who has revealed this Quran:

Dear brothers, I once read an amazing research. This research confirms beyond doubt that the famous theory of Einstein, The Theory of Relativity which was a major turning point in understanding physics, movement, light and speed is mentioned in the Noble Quran. This theory is based on the fact that the speed of light is the maximal speed in the universe, and there is nothing faster than light, but how did Einstein discover this speed?

The research is very long, but what is amazing about it is that there is an Ayah in the Quran consists of few words summarizes the theory of Einstein. This is but an inimitability of the Noble Quran which proves beyond doubt that the One Who has created the universe is the One Who has revealed the Noble Quran. The Ayah goes as follows:

﴾ And verily, a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of what you reckon. ﴿

[Al-Hajj, 47]

 This Ayah actually bewildered scientists:

﴾ And verily, a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of what you reckon. ﴿

[Al-Hajj, 47]

How is that? The Arabs are addressed in this Ayah, and they use the lunar calendar, given the moon orbits the earth in one month. Therefore, if we imagine a line running from the center of the earth to the centre of the moon, this line would represent orbital radius of the moon around the earth. How do we calculate its length? It is equal to 'the distance from the earth to the moon' + 'the radius of the earth' + 'the radius of the moon'. Multiplied the number by 2 gives us the orbit's diameter and by 3.14 gives us the circumference of the orbit which is the distance the moon travels in one month. If this is multiplied by 12, and then by 1000, the result would represent the distance the moon travels in a thousand years. This is a basic calculation which a high school student is able to make. If this number is divided by the number of seconds in the day (by dividing it by 24 then dividing the result by 60 then dividing the result by 60), we get the exact speed of light which is 299.752. Hence the distance the moon travels around the earth in one thousand years is traveled by light in one day:

﴾ And verily, a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of what you reckon. ﴿

[Al-Hajj, 47]

The speed of angels is far from being reached by human beings:

Someone might say that there is an Ayah in the Quran which mentions the number 50.000 years when Allah says:

﴾ The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years,﴿

[Al-Ma'arij, 4]

This is the speed of angels and it has nothing to do with mankind. The absolute physical speed of light is 299.752 and this number is kept in Sorbonne University in Paris even before the emergence of this theory. If we divide the number of kilometers the moon travels in its journey around the earth in 1000 years by the number of the seconds in one day, the precise result will be exactly 299.752. Few words (in this Ayah) summarize the significant theory of relativity.

The true believer has clear purpose and means:

A brother said to me once that he studied MBA in America, and when I read one Ayah in the Quran, he swore by Allah that Ayah summarized everything he studied in his major. He was referring to the following Ayah:

﴾ Is he who walks without seeing on his face, more rightly guided, or he who (sees and) walks on a Straight Way (i.e. Islamic Monotheism). ﴿

[Al-Mulk, 22]

The believer's goals are very clear, for he aims at being admitted to Paradise, and he chooses thousand means to get to his destiny including Salah, Sawm, controlling his tongue, honesty, chastity and trustworthiness. Hence, as long as his goal is clear, his means will be clear as well. On the other, the non-believer is referred to in the following Ayah:

﴾ Is he who walks without seeing on his face, more rightly guided, or he who (sees and) walks on a Straight Way (i.e. Islamic Monotheism). ﴿

The man who is steadfast and looking straight is not like the one who walks bowing down. What can the latter see? All he can see is just the ground. This is an image which describes those who are lost in life details like having worries about prices, buying, selling, the house, the wife and so forth, but they do not pay heed to the Day of Resurrection, till one day he will have a heart attack, and so he will be engraved leaving behind all his worries. Such a person does not even know why he has been created.

﴾ Is he who walks without seeing on his face, more rightly guided, or he who (sees and) walks on a Straight Way (i.e. Islamic Monotheism). ﴿

[Al-Mulk, 22]

Dear brothers, this Noble Quran is the spring (delight) of our hearts, the Method of our Lord, the path of our salvation, the solid Divine Rope, the survival means and the security valve, so whoever follows it, shall be saved, whereas whoever turns away from it shall be doomed.
