Scientific Topics from Sermons- Lesson (006): Silkworm
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of Creations, and Peace and blessings be upon our prophet Muhammad, the faithful and the honest.
Oh, Allah, we know nothing but what You teach us. You are the All- Knower, the Wise. Oh Allah, teach us what is good for us, and benefit us from what You taught us, and increase our knowledge. Show us the righteous things as righteous and help us to do them, and show us the bad things as bad and help us to keep away from them.
O Allah our Lord, lead us out from the depths of darkness and illusion, unto the lights of erudition and knowledge, and from the muddy shallows of lusts unto the heavens of Your Vicinity.

The silkworm is created by Allah the Al-Mighty, or we’d better say, that Allah the Al-Mighty devoted it especially for us, to honor human beings. This worm’s saliva gets dry immediately upon exposion to open air. In this process it turns into a silk thread that can’t be copied by human beings.
If you compare a piece of synthetic silk fabric and a natural one made by silkworm, you can realize the big difference between the two pieces, because there is a huge difference between the two threads that form those fabrics.

This saliva that is excreted by the silkworm is so fine, yet it is so strong, and though it is strong, yet it has a pearl-like shining that dazzles the sights.
It is a very fine thread yet too strong, with a breathtaking shining.

This silkworm, dear brothers, excretes saliva out of its mouth, and is able to make a thread that is 6 inches long in only one minute. It is also able to make a continuous thread that is almost 300 meters long or 1000 feet long.

If you put a cocoon in hot water, pick up the tip of the thread and roll it, you will have a very fine and strong thread more than 1000 feet long, with a breathtaking shining. It is the silkworm dear brothers.
I read once that there were silkworms of different kinds. Some of them produce golden thread, while others produce silver thread, So blessed be Allah Who creates whatever He wants.
Every 25 thousands cocoons produce one pound of silk.Lots of people around the world live on growing this worm, and on producing the silk which is beyond comprehension and imagination.
Who creates it? It is Allah A-Mighty who said:

“(Such is) the artistry of Allah, Who disposes of all things in perfect order”

[Surat Al Namel, 88]

“He began the creation of man with (nothing more than) clay”

[Surat A Sajdah, verse 7]

If we didn’t reflect on everything around us, on what Allah devoted to us, our food, our drinks, our body’s structure, and on the kingdom of heavens and earth, how can we know Allah the Al-Mighty?
This worm is a living example of Allah’s creation which indicates how Allah greatly dignifies man.
