Praise be to Allah, the Lord of Creations, and Peace and blessings be upon our prophet Muhammad, the faithful and the honest.
 Oh, Allah, we know nothing but what You teach us. You are the All- Knower, the Wise. Oh Allah, teach us what is good for us, and benefit us from what You taught us, and increase our knowledge. Show us the righteous things as righteous and help us to do them, and show us the bad things as bad and help us to keep away from them.
  O Allah our Lord, lead us out from the depths of darkness and illusion, unto the lights of erudition and knowledge, and from the muddy shallows of lusts unto the heavens of Your Vicinity.

Allah's Words are timeless since they are His Revelation:

 Dear brothers, this is the second lesson of the series Facts of Faith and Inimitability.

 Dear brothers, last lecture I explained to you that faith is all about believing and submission, whereas Kufr (disbelieving) is all about denial and turning away from Allah. Faith has a believing, doctrinal and cognitive side, and it meets man's intellectual needs, given knowing the truth is an urgent need. Also, faith includes a side where knowledge is manifested. In other words, there is a very deep, subtle and coherent explanation presented in the Quran about the universe, life and man, and about what will happen before death and what will happen after death. This explanation is inclusive, coherent, congruous with logic and sound. Thus, Islam meets the intellectual needs of man.

 The Muslim is blessed with what is called "The doctrinal security" in the sense that no matter how life evolves, how many breakthroughs emerge and how far science is advanced, nothing will contradict Allah's Words, simply because Allah's Words are A Divine Revelation from the Absolute (i.e. Allah).

Connection between reasoning and reality:

  Assume that a very notable scholar, who lived in the past when there were no computers or CDs, was brought back to life, taken from his grave and shown a CD in which there are 5000 files, and each one of them is about a book or an encyclopedia of many volumes which would make the total amount of books close to 50.000 to that CD, and if they are readable books, they will fill an entire house from ground to ceiling, but they are indexed to that small CD in addition to the ability of searching, printing and other unbelievable options, so what would the scholar say about that? Most likely he would accuse you of insanity upon hearing that, because basically, man's reasoning is pretty much relevant to the reality he knows, and though he was a very notable scholar in his era, there were no computers when he lived.
In another example, in the olden days and when the Khalifah (Caliph) intended to send orders to the Islamic different states like sending an order from Damascus to north Africa, the messenger would probably spend 4 months to deliver the order on his horse. However, nowadays, you can watch any incident live on TV, for you will receive it instantly colored, commented on and analyzed as well. Hence, according to the previous fact, reasoning is relevant to reality, which is manifested in the Divine Revelation that is from the Absolute (i.e. Allah).

The doctrinal security has nothing that contradicts the Quran:

  Only the believer experiences an exalted state that none does, and this state is the doctrinal security which is manifested in believing beyond doubt that nothing in life, regarding intellect, science or inventions contradicts the Noble Quran, simply because the latter is from the Creator of the heavens and the earth.

  Consider the following example: When you travel by the most advanced plane in the world and in the business class where the couches are cozy, magazines are all around you, TV channels are in front of you, drinks of all sorts and tasty food cooked by the best cooks in the world are offered to you making you feel how everything in this flight is luxurious and exquisite including your couch which can be converted to a bed enabling you to sleep deeply for hours while you are in the air, you will notice this grace mentioned in the Quran when you read the following Ayah:

﴾ And (He has created) horses, mules and donkeys, for you to ride﴿

[An-Nahl, 8]

 Make a quick comparison between riding a donkey and traveling by the plane. Keep reading the rest of the Ayah:

﴾ And He creates (other) things of which you have no knowledge.﴿

[An-Nahl, 8]

 The rest of the Ayah actually embraces all sorts of advanced transportations including the plane, the yacht, the train, the car and the vehicles of all kinds. These are the Words of the Creator of the heavens and the earth.

Nothing shall cancel the Divine Revelation or Allah's Words:

 As I have just indicated, the believer is blessed with a state of doctrinal security. I hope that the concept here is clear, because what I meant to say is that nothing (breakthrough) shall cancel any Ayah in the Quran, nor shall any scientific fact or discovery contradict the Divine Revelation or cancel Allah's Words, because they are the Words of the Creator of the heavens and the earth Who knows what happened, what is happening and what will happen, and He knows the things which did not happen how it would have been if it had happened.

 Allah the Almighty made the Message of Muhammad PBUH the seal of all Divine Messages, his Prophetic Mission the seal of all Missions, the Noble Quran the seal of all Divine Books and the Prophetic Da'wah (call to Allah) as a call to all nations, people and mankind in general without any exception and it is Divinely decreed to be spread in all continents till the end of days, but do you know why? It is because Allah knows that there will be mass communications between different nations, and as you all know nowadays the entire world is communicating through the pc desktop, and if you travel to America, Australia, France, Germany, Africa or Guinea you, will still be able to watch all the local news as if you are still in Damascus.

 Nothing can be hidden any more, and the entire glob becomes one place on the desktop which makes the world, not five continents, one country, one city, one village or one house, but a desktop.  The Prophet PBUH said:

((This matter (Islam) will keep spreading as far as the night and day reach))

 This is Islam and it will keep spreading as far as the night and day reach. Wherever you go around the world, you can listen to an Islamic radio channel, and you can read Islamic newspapers. My website on the internet introduced me to the Muslims in Australia before they even meet me, and when I traveled there to Millburn in South Australia I was warmly welcomed by the librarian of its university though we never met before. He said that he was one of the visitors of my website. Therefore, if I deliver a Khutbah, an interpretation lecture, or any of my lectures, they will be able to listen to them on the internet.

 It is becoming a habit of mine now to stop taking any of my lectures with me, and all I do is just giving people my website address where they can read, listen to and watch my different lectures, my televised interviews and my other religious lessons anywhere in the world. Yesterday, a brother of ours came from Canada, and he told me that he was following all my lectures there. The world really becomes one place.

Allah the Almighty molded man to come to terms with His Method:

  Along with the amazing breakthroughs, there are information revolution and communication means including the cellular phone through which you can talk to anyone around the world as if you are talking to him in the same room. In addition, there is the fax machine which sends and receives papers all over the world in seconds.

 Allah knows about all these breakthroughs, so He made the Divine Message of the Prophet PBUH the seal of all Divine Messages, and that is why the content of the Noble Quran and Sunnah are able to reach the horizon and every spot on earth. Hence, the first point about faith is that Allah has molded, programmed and adjusted us, as human beings, to accord with His Method. In other words, He orders us to be honest, and He has installed the tendency to be honest in us. Also, He orders us to be trustworthy, and He has installed the loving of trustworthiness in us. Allah says:

﴾But Allah has endeared the Faith to you and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger PBUH) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones,﴿

[Al-Hujuraat, 7]

 Your ultimate achievement is to feel comfortable with the Divine Method and Allah's Orders and to be in pain and remorse upon committing whatever goes against Allah's Method.

Human soul gains happiness upon reconciling with Allah:

  The most outstanding word in the Quran is the following:

﴾He commands them for Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained)﴿

[Al-A'raf, 157]

 What is the meaning of Ma'ruf? Ma'ruf (is an Arabic word which means "well-known") means to know something, but what does it refer to? It refers to the matters man knows very well (as right or wrong), for the sound Fitrah knows what is right and what is wrong.

 I repeat again the first point about faith is that the believer adjusts himself to be in harmony with the facts of faith, the Divine Method, the Divine Orders, the Divine Preventions, the Islamic duties, the permissible matters, the forbidden matters and the allowed ones. Hence, if we define the happiest man, whom are we referring to? We are referring to the one who reconciles with himself.

 When you obey Allah, you actually reconcile with yourself. If someone drives his latest advanced vehicle on a bumpy road which is full of rocks, dust, bumps and potholes, he will probably hear breaking sounds coming from the car, because it is designed to be driven on a paved road on which it makes no sound, and it functions perfectly. Also, it takes off at a high speed with lowest noise, simply because it is designed to be driven on such roads where it functions in a full swing. Similarly, the human soul will act comfortably as long as it is on the Right Path, because it is Divinely Molded to get along with Allah's Method and to reconcile with Him.

Whoever applies the Divine Method is at indescribable ease:

  I would like to repeat this point: The first thing about faith is that it gets along with Fitrah, and this explains why it is said that "Islam is the religion of Fitrah". You will notice that the believer is always at ease. We, as Muslims, are experiencing hardship, threats and problems which put us in the worst conditions where everything is hazy. Not to mention the west is threatening us:

((The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish.))

 There are five Islamic states under occupation, our treasures are despoiled, the Muslim youth are killed, lying and cunning have prevailed, Islam is falsely accused (by the west to be responsible for terrorism in the world) and a third world war is declared against Islam. However, and among all these hardships the believer finds peace of mind even though he might own nothing, only because his life is in harmony with his Fitrah (and the Divine Method thusly).

 The believer never lies, never takes ill-gotten money and never cheats, and he has a profound belief that the Creator of the heavens and the earth loves him and that everything is in His Hand. By Allah dear brothers, the confidence attained by the repentant Muslim who belongs to common people cannot be seen, yet it is manifested clearly in his behavior, and it is there simply because he reconciles with Allah, follows His Method and walks on the Path which pleases Allah. Furthermore, this believer will have confidence, security, serenity, happiness, content, tranquility and stability which are enough for an entire city.

Faith is in harmony with Fitrah:

  The first fact about faith is that your psychological characteristics are in harmony with your Fitrah in the sense that you are molded and programmed to get along with the Divine Method, to reconcile with Allah, to knock on His door, to seek His Love and to gain comfort that shall never be tasted by those who lack all that. This is the first fact of faith according to which you are in harmony with your Fitrah unlike the Kafir who is in contrast with his Fitrah.

 Those who are convinced that there is no Allah are very vulnerable when they face perils, because man tends to seek refuge with an upper power in his hardship in order to count on it and to ask for its advice, but since they do not have an upper power to believe in, they become so fragile. Pay attention to the following Ayah:

﴾That is because Allah is the Maula (Lord, Master, Helper, Protector, etc.) of those who believe, and the disbelievers have no Maula (lord, master, helper, protector, etc.).﴿

[Muhammad, 11]

 You can notice the difference between the juvenile who has a knowledgeable rich and respected father, who has a private room, whose home is organized, who is offered the best food and clothes, whose needs are fulfilled and whose father is so keen on his study and the juvenile who keeps moving from one shelter to another and from jail to reformatory, and who is indulged in committing sins, errors and all sorts of violations starting with stealing and ending with adultery. This is the difference between the believer and disbeliever.

The believer's life is stable because he puts his trust in Allah:

  Allah the Almighty says:

﴾That is because Allah is the Maula (Lord, Master, Helper, Protector, etc.) of those who believe, and the disbelievers have no Maula (lord, master, helper, protector, etc.).﴿

[Muhammad, 11]

 Allah is the Maula of the believer in the sense that He is His reference. Why is the life of the believer very stable? That is because he applies Allah's Method to the letter, and thus nothing shall cause his destruction. On the other hand, the heedless causes his own doom. Let me tell you a story of a deviated man who causes his destruction. He was a rich man, and he used to spend his time in nightclubs, so once he fell in love with a dancer and he got married to her, but that dancer was actually a hooker more than a dancer, and she kept committing that major sin with customers. As a result, that man threw her out of his house. However, after a while his love to her made him forgive and bring her back to his home, but she accepted to get back provided he gave her an astronomical amount of money in addition to her dowry. He paid her the money she asked for, but she left him right away and she filed a lawsuit against him asking him for the dowry. Since he ran out of money (because he gave it all to her), he went to her mother's house where she stayed, and he shot them both with his gun, then he shut himself. Ironically, they did not die but he did. His doom was a result of following the wrong path unlike the believer who follows the Prophet's path:

((So get the one who is religious and prosper (lit. may your hands cleave to the dust)."))

 The believer looks forward to marrying the pious woman who is from a respectful family, and who is privileged with an Islamic upbringing. Such a woman fears Allah, and thus she will bring joy to his heart upon looking at her, she will guard his honor when he is away, she will obey him when he asks her to do something and she will fill the house with children who will bring happiness and joy to the house:

﴾Is then he who is a believer like him who is Fasiq (disbeliever and disobedient to Allah)? Not equal are they.﴿

[As-Sajdah, 18]

 The difference between a pious woman and a dissolute one is like the difference between a grilled fresh meat ready to be eaten, and another piece of rotten piece of meat whose bad odor can be smelled 50 meters away and which is so disgusting, given one of us cannot stand the smell of the carrion of a dead animal in the open:

﴾ Is then he who is a believer like him who is Fasiq (disbeliever and disobedient to Allah)? Not equal are they.﴿

[As-Sajdah, 18]

The success of the atheist in worldly life is the result of applying Islam:

  I would like to repeat again that the first point about faith is that it is in harmony with man's Fitrah, and it brings about a doctrinal security to the believer in the sense that nothing surprises him, not even a new scientific theory, breakthrough or a medication that might make man live longer. It is not feasible to live for 500 (opposing in that breakthrough the rules of Quran), because this long life will definitely make man act haphazardly. Allah says:

﴾When their term is reached, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment).﴿

[Al-A'raf, 34]

 Nothing in science contradicts the Noble Quran, because the Quran is Allah's Book, and falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it. Hence the doctrinal security is granted to the believer for the rest of his life. The first communist country (Russia) surprisingly forbade drinking wine before the collapse of the Soviet Union, as she found out that wine was an obstacle in the way of her advance, and it paralyzed the youth. This decision actually took place 5 years before the collapse of Soviet Union.

 Also, something unusual is expected to take place in the capitalist community of the United States, for they are tending to cancel the mixed-gender universities and resort to single-gender ones because of the huge number of abandoned newborns (close to 350.000) which are found in the gardens of the universities as a result of illicit affairs among students, and this new campaign is led by the tyrant of this era (George W Bush).

  Hence, by the passage of time, people of the globe resort to apply religious rules, not because they believe in Allah at all, but because they believe in money and in success in the worldly life. To achieve that success they stick to religious concepts. Upon travelling to Europe and America, I found out that all the positive things in these countries are congruous with religious rulings, but this is not a result of believing in Allah, but rather it is because their interests entail that.

 Hence, upon evolving, man becomes much closer to religion which grants him the doctrinal security and which gets along with him Fitrah, and these are two characteristics of faith. The difference here is that the believer gives others, prevents something from others, strengthens ties with others, severs ties with others, gets angry with others and gets satisfied only for the Sake of Allah (unlike the disbeliever who might do all that for his own interests).

Faith is an inclusive religious speech which addresses the heart, the reasoning and the body:

  Man-made laws are like the cartoon characters (which sometimes have big heads and small bodies) as they might concentrate on the heart and overlook the reasoning or vice versa. On the other hand, the Quran which includes faith and religion addresses the reasoning, the heart and the body, so the religious message is balanced and inclusive. The religion meets the needs of reasoning which is fed by knowledge, it meets the needs of the heart which is fed by love and it meets the needs of the body which is the vehicle of man by ordering him to highly maintain it. Therefore, there is balance in the religious message and nothing is overlooked by it.

 I repeat again, the first characteristic of faith is that it provides the believer with doctrinal security, the second characteristic is that it is in harmony with man's Fitrah and the third characteristic is that it meets the needs of the three main parts of man (reasoning, heart and body). Allah says:

﴾ A people whom He will love and they will love Him﴿

[Al-Ma'idah', 54]

 There is love in Islam. Concerning this point, the Prophet PBUH said as reported in the relic:

((The most prudent among you is the one who loves Allah the most.))

﴾ But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else)﴿

[Al-Baqarah, 165]

((Narrated Abu Umamah: The Prophet (PBUH) said: "If anyone loves for Allah's sake, hates for Allah's sake, gives for Allah's sake and withholds for Allah's sake, he will have perfect faith."))

Allah made man weak so that the latter would resort to Allah:

  One of the privileges of faith is that it is based on man's needs, but how is that? To explain how, consider the fact that Allah has made you weak for very profound wisdom. Assume that you own a very expensive computer, but the power in our country is not stable, so any excessive amount of power will burn it, right? In order to prevent that, manufacturers provide expensive machines with a fuse, and the function of this fuse is to receive the excessive power instead of the expensive machine, so whenever there is excessive power, this fuse will melt and cut the power protecting thereof the machine from burning. This fuse is harmless to the machine, and it is the outcome of man's super intellect. The same goes for man, as his weakness which is installed by Allah is to his own advantage. Allah says:

﴾ And man was created weak (cannot be patient to leave sexual intercourse with woman).﴿

[An-Nisa', 28]

 Had it not been for your weakness, you would have never repented to Allah. Also, had it not been for your weakness, you would have never longed to a Paradise which is as wide as the heavens and the earth. Man usually goes wild in his youth, but he starts praying when he reaches his fifties, because he starts asking the key question: What is awaiting in my grave since I am close to death now? What is there after death? Allah the Almighty bestowed the grace of being weak and vulnerable upon us. Pay attention to this point: You are weak, so you resorts to Allah because of your weakness, and as a result you will gain happiness. However, if you were created strong, you would dispense with Allah, and you would resort to your strength. As a result, you would gain misery. Allah says:

﴾ Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.)* Because he considers himself self-sufficient.﴿

[Al-Alaq, 6-7]

The most foolish man on earth is the one who turns away from Allah:

  The one who is indulged in sins despite all the graces given to him by Allah is actually the worst man on earth:

﴾ So, when they forgot (the warning) with which they had been reminded, We opened to them the gates of every (pleasant) thing, until in the midst of their enjoyment in that which they were given, all of a sudden, We took them to punishment﴿

[Al-An'am, 44]

 The man who destroyed 70.000 houses in Gaza (Ariel Sharon) was afflicted with a brain stroke, and he was admitted to the hospital, but when he woke up, the first statement he made was that he would continue destroying houses. After a while, the second fatal stroke hit his brain and he spent years in a coma, and he turned to a very ugly creature as I was told by someone who saw his photo on the internet.

﴾ Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). Because he considers himself self-sufficient.﴿

[Al-Alaq, 6-7]

 He owned the most lethal weapons, and he had the entire world backing him up, whereas the Palestinians were weak, so he destroyed their houses and killed their youth, but who is the most foolish man on earth? He is the one who is forgetful about Allah's Punishment:

﴾ Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.)* Because he considers himself self-sufficient.﴿

[Al-Alaq, 6-7]

The humble man before Allah is better than the arrogant:

  I hope that you will think deeply about what I am going to say: It is for your own good to be weak and to suffer, because in your weakness and suffering you will invoke Allah and say: "O Lord, there is only You, O Lord grant me success, O Lord cure me". It is better for you to suffer and become in need of Allah because of your weakness, but where does this preference come from?

 It was mentioned that Gabriel (the angel), peace be upon him, asked Prophet Muhammad PBUH whether he preferred to be a king Prophet or a servant Prophet. The Prophet PBUH said,

((I prefer to be a servant Prophet, so I remember Allah the day I am hungry and praise Him the day I am replete.))

  Weakness makes you keep worshiping Allah, and so does poverty. The poor person is most likely humble and polite, and he treasures money upon spending it. A man I know swore by Allah that once he was invited to a banquet in a very rich country. They served a cooked camel's calf stuffed with rise, meat, pistachio, pine nuts and cashew, and on top of it they cooked a stuffed baby sheep, and they made it look like a crown on the calf. The guests were only 4 or 5 people, and all they ate was not more than 0.5 percent of the food. After they were done, they washed their hands on the food, and when one of them criticized their behavior, they haughtily said to him, "No one eats from what we ate".

 It is rather better to be humble in front of Allah and to appreciate His Graces upon you than to be arrogant and consider yourself superior to other. Who is the foolish? He is the one who sees that his rights are different from others' and that their duties are different from his. This is a kind of racism.

The world is racist rather than being humane:

  The world in our era now is humane and racist. Do not be surprised when I say that since the dealings among people in this world manifest racism starting with the husband who gives himself rights to which he sees his wife is not entitled, and who sees that she must do duties he is not obliged to fulfill. For instance, the husband who respects his mother, yet he makes fun of his mother-in-law, is a racist man.

 Racism starts with the racist husband and ends with the racist VETO. Why the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council have veto power? When one of them says "No", then any resolution should be cancelled. Who gave this country this power? We all belong to mankind. Why the world raised Hell because a country in the region upon trying to develop a nuclear reactor for peaceful purposes, while a state in the same region owns 200 nuclear warheads and is left alone?

 Lesbians in the United States are free to wear whatever they like, and once a father of a lesbian filed a lawsuit against her school manager and was given by the judge an astronomical sum of money as compensation for preventing his lesbian daughter form wearing what she likes. On the other hand, the Muslim woman is forbidden from putting Hijab and the entire Europe raised Hell against this Hijab which but manifests her chastity, purity and morality. Why is this double standard policy? Do westerners respect mankind? No they do not, because they give the lesbian the right to wear whatever she like, while the Muslim woman is not given such a right although homosexuality is forbidden in all Divine Religions. Let alone, westerners will raise Hell when a woman puts Hijab, so does this society deserve to be respected? Not at all!!!

 Hence, dear brothers:

﴾ But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else)﴿

[Al-Baqarah, 165]

 The sound faith grants the believers balance, doctrinal security and harmony with his Fitrah.

The requisites of reciting Quran as it should be:

  We are used to dedicate this time of the lecture to talk about a scientific topic, so pondering over Allah's Creation would be an opportunity for the one who overlooked that act of worship to perform it.

1- Reading the Quran rightly and according to Arabic grammar:

  All of you know that the Quran is the Words of Allah, and that it should be read correctly according to the Arabic grammar. This is the first requisite of reading the Quran properly.

2- Reading the Quran according to Tajweed rulings:

  The second requisite to read the Quran is reading it according to Tajweed rules (refers to the rules governing pronunciation during recitation of the Qur'an).

3- Comprehending what one reads:

  The third requisite is understanding what you are reading.

4- Pondering over its Ayat:

  The fourth requisite is pondering over the Ayat of the Quran, but how can one do that? One can do that by considering himself upon reading some Ayat. For example, in the following Ayah, Allah the Almighty describes the believers by saying:

﴾ Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides﴿

[Aal-'Imran, 191]

 Upon reciting such an Ayah, you should ask yourself, "Am I remembering Allah?" You might find out that you are not remembering Allah.

 When Allah describes the believers as follows:

﴾ Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things),﴿

[An-Nur, 59]

 You should ask yourself, "Am I lowering my gaze or not?" Pay attention to the following Ayah in which Allah describes the believers:

﴾ And who fulfill their covenant when they make it ﴿

[Al-Baqarah, 177]

 After reading it, you should ask yourself: Do I keep my promises and covenants? This is how pondering over the Ayat of the Quran should be. It is about considering yourself one of those who apply whatever they read or not. This is pondering.

5- Applying it:

  This leads us to the fifth requisite which is to apply what you read in the Quran. Let me repeat again the five requisites to read the Quran properly: Reading it according to Arabic grammar, reading it according to Tajweed rules, Comprehending what you read, pondering over what you read by assessing yourself according to the standards of the Quran and finally applying what you read.

Pondering over Allah's Ayat:

  If we take pondering over the Ayat of the Quran (which is the fourth requisites), how will this pondering should be, and how do we ponder over a Divine Order?

﴾ And speak good to people [i.e. enjoin righteousness and forbid evil, and say the truth about Muhammad Peace be upon him ] ﴿

[Al-Baqarah, 83]

 Pondering here is done by speaking good to people:

﴾ neither backbite one another ﴿

[Al-Hujuraat, 12]

  Pondering over the abovementioned Ayah is refraining from backbiting anyone. Hence, pondering over the Divine Orders is to follow the Orders to the letter by applying what you are ordered and refrain from what you are forbidden from.

 In the Ayah below, Allah the Almighty describes Paradise:

﴾And those who kept their duty to their Lord will be led to Paradise in groups, till, when they reach it, and its gates will be opened (before their arrival for their reception) ﴿

[Az-Zumar, 73]

 How can you ponder over the Ayat which describe the people of Paradise? You ponder over these Ayat by striving to deserve Paradise. On the other hand, if you read an Ayah which describes the people of Hellfire, what should you do? You should strive to avoid Hellfire. Also, if you read an Ayah about the destruction of old nations, what should you do? You should learn a lesson to avoid being Divinely destroyed like them. Hence, pondering over the Ayat of the Quran is in concise to react actively to each one of them.

Our Method in contemplation is derived from the Ayat about the universe:

  If you read an Ayah where Allah tells us about the universe (and these Ayat are about 1000 Ayat in the Quran), what should you do? You should ponder over it. Allah says:

﴾ Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding* Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire.﴿

[Aal-'Imran, 190-191]

 I would like to pass the following fact in this last part of my lecture: Is there a method for pondering? As I see it, the (close to 1000) Ayat in the Quran which revolves around the universe, among the other billions of universal signs Allah has created for us as hints, are the subjects of pondering and the Method of pondering.

Water is one of the signs which indicated the Greatness of Allah:

  Allah the Almighty says:

﴾ And it is not you who are the owners of its stores [i.e. to give water to whom you like or to withhold it from whom you like]. ﴿

[Al-Hijr, 22]

 It is not up to you, as a human being, to store water, and if this mission were assigned to you, every family would need a tank as big as the house itself to provide the family with water for a whole year. However, Allah says:

﴾ And it is not you who are the owners of its stores [i.e. to give water to whom you like or to withhold it from whom you like]. ﴿

[Al-Hijr, 22]

 When man is obliged to store water, he will build a huge tank like the one we have in Damascus, and it is big enough that it suffices the people of Damascus for many days, and it is built 400 meters under the ground. This is the perfect condition to store water, and it is learnt from the natural way by which Allah stores water; Allah stores water inside mountains, and thus the latter are the storage means of water.

 This Divine way of storing water can provide mankind with sweet drinkable water through astonishing rivers just like the Amazon River in South America which is the largest river by discharge of water in the world at an average discharge of about 300,000 cubic meters per second. The Nile River is the longest river in that respect, whereas the Seine River in France is the most important river in France, and it flows all over the country from north to south and from east to west.

﴾ And it is not you who are the owners of its stores [i.e. to give water to whom you like or to withhold it from whom you like]. ﴿

[Al-Hijr, 22]

The Ayat which are subject of contemplating should be written down:

  Who stores water in mountains? Allah the Almighty does. Without the spring of Fijeh in Damascus, the latter would never be resided. This spring discharges close to 50 cubic meters per second during a rainy season. The natural store of that spring spreads geographically from Damascus in the south to Homs in the north and from Al-Badiyah in the east to Lebanon in the west, and this huge natural store provides Damascus with water. Allah says:

﴾ And it is not you who are the owners of its stores [i.e. to give water to whom you like or to withhold it from whom you like]. ﴿

[Al-Hijr, 22]

 This is a way through which man can ponder over an Ayah in the Quran. I suggest that you write down all the Ayat which revolves around the universe, and make a list of them for pondering. Read the following Ayah:

﴾ And it is not you who are the owners of its stores [i.e. to give water to whom you like or to withhold it from whom you like]. ﴿

[Al-Hijr, 22]

 This is an Ayah to ponder over. In another Ayah Allah says:

﴾ And the cattle, He has created them for you﴿

[An-Nahl, 5]

 The milk and dairy products are subjects of pondering. This part of our lecture today is about the method of pondering. The Ayat in the Quran in which the universe is mentioned are chosen by Allah for us among billions of other Ayat and signs to be a method of pondering for us. Therefore, if we want to ponder over these Ayat, we should write them down and enlist them, so that we can ponder over them one by one on daily basis.
